Photographer's Note
Hypogeum of the Volumni
The Etruscan family had built a huge sepulcher consisting of 10 rooms in the likeness of a house with the intention that it could serve many generations: in reality only a few members - for unknown circumstances - found rest there, all in the largest cell, the tablinium.
On the left, the urn of her daughter Velia Velimna, seated on a throne. Next to this, the marble urn by Publio Volumnio, already Roman in the 1st century AD. with naturalistic depictions of a paradise garden and with the Latin inscription that gave the name Volumni to the Hypogeum.
In the center is the urn of Arnth Velimna son of Aule: the deceased, with a patera for sacrifices in his hand, lies on a triclinium draped under, on the sides of a painted door of Hades, there are two beautiful statues of winged funerary demons.
On the right is the urn of the brothers Vel and Larth and of their father Aule and grandfather Tefhri. The ceilings and tympanums of this tomb, which reproduce the plan of an aristocratic house, are decorated with reliefs imitating refined wooden structures (beams, coffers) and reliefs depicting characters linked to the afterlife and images of weapons and armor.

Hello Silvio,
These Etruscan tombs are quite beautiful and have retained their magic after more than 2000 years. You managed the limited light very well and show us a very cfiear and sharp photo.
Best regards,

Ciao Silvio
I saw several such scenes in crypts and lower basements of some Italian churches I visited. Good sharpness and lighting with impressive sculpture of the sarcophagi. Tfs!

Hi Silvio,
Le sujet est bien cadré. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de l'Hypogée de Volumni. La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne journée.

Hi Silvio.
An extraordinary composition, with this family tomb that has reached our days in very good condition, surprises the placement of the statues of the deceased on the tricliniums, it seems as if it were celebrating a meeting or conversation among all.
Both the color and the brightness of the photo are magnificent.
Very well done. I like it
Have a good day.
Very best regards, my friend.
Luis.

Hello Silvio,
The light management was excellent here so we still get a clear view of the rich sculptures with their many details. They stand out well from the darker walls. Well done.

Hi Silvio
Life and Death. Being very much alive, things like this fascinate some people like you. Tx to your accompanying narratives, I like all the details one could make out under low light condition. You coped the exposure pretty well there, Well done

Hello Silvio,
Oh, the troubles they took to bury their dead back then as opposed to now, when people cremate their dead and keep them in urns.
Regards,
MT
