Photographer's Note
Green Ireland they say...
It doesn't look that green here. In fact, I was shocked to pass through such a scenery on the Wicklow Way trek trail.
To be fair to the Irish I must say though that tree cutting seemed to be very organized, and patches of wood cut down were replaced with planting trees somewhere else. Still this should be a warning signal: no matter where this photo was taken, we don't want our children to trek through such scenery, do we?

Hi !
I took a picture from wicklow one week ago and I think I know where you are. have a look on this :
http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Ireland/South/Wicklow/photo668233.htm
I think the place you are, it's in the middle of my picture. the big brow area. I remember from the place I took my picture I was little disapointed to see an area with wood cut.
Anyway like you say it's not very beautiful to see a place like that but Wicklow is really beautiful place even if in some area we can found this kind of place.
Great shot and great note guideline too.
have a nice week-end.
(sorry for my english I'm french !)
Thanks for sharing.
Regards,
Sylvain

I think with the trail-marker still standing, this picture certainly evokes the sense of recent loss and destruction in the area.
It's worth mentioning that many of the forests in Ireland are commercially managed, mostly by the government-owned Coillte (www.coillte.ie), and the trees are felled for timber. As you guessed, these areas are replanted again.
