There have been a number of black sand beach photos posted on TE recently, so...as my title suggests, Lets Join In on the Fun.
Here we have a beautiful landscape scene from Southern Iceland, in Jokulsarlon. Its a great place to spend a couple of hours, or more, just exploring.
This specific location is famous for its icebergs and large chunks of ice that find their way to the beach.
Large Icebergs are on one side of the hwy, the smaller chunks wash up on the beach on the other side of the hwy. I really should post photos of the large Ice chunks, not sure why I havn't done that yet.
The black sand beach here is so beautiful, its a must see.
So here is an interesting tale to tell. I wanted to save money and gain the experience, so I decided to sleep in my car. This happened several nights during my trip to Iceland. And yes, it was quite the experience. See the bridge in the bg, I parked my car just beside it and spent the night here.
I chose this location because there are other vehicles close by, people doing the same thing...however, they have camper vans with warm beds and toilets. Me, well, lets just say I had to improvise. It was a cold, long night, but I wouldn't change anything. Fond memories from this beautiful location.

hello Craig, I see you were inspired by the pictures of the black beaches. I liked the black beaches of Iceland, I found them wonderful. But I haven't seen this one. Excellent composition with these pieces of ice and also an interesting bridge in the background.

Hello Craig,
These three photos are really amazing, and it's nearly all about the huge chunks of ice strewn across the beach. White on black - almost monochrome. The small icebergs in WS #2 look like some kind of strange swans. Fantastic!
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Craig,
I like the low viewpoint you chose to get the black beach and the pieces of ice scattered around it so well in the foreground. The mountains and the bridge make a great backdrop, especially in this bright sidelight. Very well done.

Hi Craig.A very original post and different from the frozen lake. Generally people direct the camera towards the blue icebergs, you have chosen a different and really brilliant perspective, which shows the ice blocks on the black beach and the bridge, which I think remains the best point to take pictures of the lake and that i can see in the best way in the WS. Congratulations, excellent choice. Regarding my photo of the market, I have no idea why the boy was not dressed like the others ..Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano

Hello Craig,
I salute you for your tenacity and your amazing photography!
This is stunning!
Th contrast between the black beach and the white chunks of ice, is just about as dramatic as is possible! The bridge is perfectly placed as a b/g feature.
This certainly has to go in my favourites!
It's a beauty!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Craig, superb black sand beach in Iceland due to the intense volcanic activity on the island. There are some pebbles in the sand. The ice isn't fully melted even in summer. The mountains, a rip rap and a bridge can be seen in the bg. Original view showing the coastline.

Hi Craig,
The distance between the beach and the bridge is creating depth. Thepoint of view is showing the details of the beach and of the pieces of ice. The light has a good effect on the colors. have a nice day.

Hi Craig
Now that's something you don't see every day!
Magical landscape perhaps, straight out of a fairytale....
Interesting shot of the ice chunks on black volcanic sand. - they look like a scattering of very large diamonds as a f/g feature "inserted" to this big Icelandic landscape. Crikey, so unearthly, amazing drama and superb contrast as though on another planet impressive shot and tfs

Hi Craig,
Black basalt sand and white ice boulders is a combination hard to find elsewhere. And it looks especially good on this low angle sunshine. The bridge and mountains make a good background.

Great black beach indeed, but it's the ice that steals the show. The bridge in the bg isn't bad either. Great post,Craig. Tfs & cheers.

Hi Craig
Maybe I should post a shot of my black sand beach on Santorini. I recall it was super hot to walk on, and much hotter than any white sand. No danger of that here though with all those iceberg chunks stranded on the beach. Tfs!

Hello Craig I first thought you sent your drone in the outer space to take pictures of a newly-discovered planet! What a strange panorama that surely constitutes an originality on TE and consequent a hit in your gallery, due to its impressive look of an old b&w negative of years gone by!! Cheers

Hi Craig,
this is a great contribution to the black sand beaches, I wonder whether I should set up a theme for them...
Same color of sand but the ice cubes indicate quite a different temperature ...
Great focus on the foreground here with not less interesting background.
Amazing trip although I am glad I could see similar views at higher temperatures :)
Excellent work,

It looks as a document about global-warming situatiuon, Craig.
But, photography-wise it is a beautiful scenery with the black volcanic soil gave contrast withn the melting ice pieces.
Best regards,
Ike

il forte spirito di avventura fa fare cose insolite.

Hello Craig,
Many of your Iceland landscape photos show empty stretches of land, but I like seeing the bridge in this one. The black sand and mountains in the background are very dramatic, and I like all the small boulders embedded in the sand, too. It was worth sleeping in your car for views like this. :-)

Hello Craig,
A great composition with excellent depth.
What a strong and pretty contrast between the many ice chunks and the dark pebbles and sand of the beach!
The white pillars of the bridge form a kind of continuation of the white colour of the ice floes.
Best regards, Paul

craig
lovely image. I liked the use of the light here, making the ice like pieces of diamond in the black sand. nice use of the shapes of the bridge too. if this is expensive for a canadian I can imagine it will be worst to a brazilian.
take care
jorge
