The Liberation Monument in Budapest, Hungary...
Today’s Budapest was created on 17th November 1873 by uniting the towns of Pest on the East bank of the Danube –, and Buda and Óbuda on the west bank of the river. Written history of today’s Budapest goes back to the Roman era for it was established in 89 AD under the name of Aquincum. The founding fathers, the Magyars, appeared in the area after the fall of the Roman Empire, in the time of the great migration, around 880 AD. According to Anonymus’ writings, Árpád, leader of the settlers, chose Buda Castle, “the city of King Attila”.
The statue shown in the picture was erected in 1947 after the second world war. The main figure is a woman, holding an olive branch, the symbol of peace in her hands. On both sides symbolic figures can be seen: the young man's victory over the dragon represents the defeat of fascism.
This is a picture I took in 1988. Scanned from negative, applied retouches, Neat Image & gradual toning, cropped, increased sharpness.

Hi Erden
A nice POV with the silhouette of the statue outstanding the valley. I like the soft light, warm colors gradient and this specific grainy aspect given by the scan.

Merhaba Sevgili Erdem Bey,
This photo exuding a dreamy quality turns out to be timely. Just yesterday I mentioned to close friends that Budapest is a twin city, like Minneapolis-St. Paul, with one side of the Danube representing Buda, and the other side Pest. When they looked at me with incredulity, I suddenly wondered, was I making this up. My good friend and mentor, the late great Hungarian-American physicist Eugene Wigner, I believe, had first told me about this. Click on page 10 of my Sketch Book and mouse over the top left sketch. He had been one of 40 students in the graduating class at Gymasium 19 in Budapest, seven of the 40 so brilliant that we refer to them as "the Martians." In addition to Wigner (Nobel) included, Leo Szilard ('Father of the atom bomb'), Edward Teller ('Father of the H-bomb'), Johnny von Neumann (the greatest mathematician of the 20th century), Albert Szent-Giorgi (Nobel), George Gabor (Nobel), and Eugene Ormandy (conductor of the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. Whenever I asked him, "What was in the water?" he would point to three pictures on the wall: an engraving of Isaac Newton, a photograph of Albert Einstein, and his high school mathematics teacher, Laszlo Ratz.
Sevgilerimle,
Bulent
