Fira by Night, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

Fira hugs the rim of an ancient volcano and at night is a festival of lights. The picture was taken from the balcony of the Hotel Keti with a 2s exposure.

This view is to the right of the panoramic shot I posted a couple of days ago. If I can get it to work you should be able to click here for it...

Very good composition with beautiful colors, especially the dark blue twilight sky. The church at the top attracts the sight. Without it the picture would lack a focal point. It is very well done. Thanks

magnifique vue de la tombйe du jour avec un dйcor de lumieres superbe qui donne une atmosphйre harmonieuse et chaleureuse...le cadrage est trop fort...bien maitrisй...une vrai carte postale qui vous invite a prendre l'avio et venir vivre un moment execptionnel sur cette petite terrasse de cette maison rose en bordure de mer...tout ce qui s'appelle кtre gйnial...un grand bravo et merci ...je l'a met illiquo en fond d'йcran...c'est trop beau...amicalement BI

Absolutely stunning - and thanks for the hotel reference - I've been planning to go there for a while but didn't know where to stay!

wow jonathan , this doesn tlook real at all. the colours are so rich here and the blue of the sky..................
your composition looks really nice. it looks more like a model of a settlement than a place where people actually live.

The long exposure has gievn your pix a special atmosphere both artificial and cartoon-like, which reminds me of "naive" painting. It's a pleasure to watch and engages the imagination.

This has gotten to be the brightest nightscene or day brightclarity on a night scene of a small city/suburbs. The scene is very well exposed and color is just so good and juicy. Very well done and composed Jonathan. Very enviable photo.

My God, does this picture make me want to go back to Santorini. Very nice composition and a very sharp pic with 2 sec. exp. Just about to move up to a Nikon D70 and with shots like this, its only a matter of time before I return to this magical island. Thanks for sharing!

I was looking at the day version and thought how good that one was, and then i found this, simply amazing the range of colours in this shot all jump out at the users, very saturated which is great, a great sight at night as well as day! well captured!

what a fascinating view of night with great blue sky , you have chosen the best time for shooting , During twilight there is still some usable light to make for very interesting pictures like this one.
