When work is pleasure, a photo from Lasithi, Crete

Photographer's Note

After 168 photos uploaded in TE I thought I should give it a try in "macro" photography. I had never experimented with this genre, but wandering around the Cretan mountains and seing all this magnificent flowers of the island "pushed" me to try this one and many others. So many beautiful flowers, so many beautiful colours. Name a colour and I can find you a flower with that colour in the Cretan inland. Unfortunately I am not a specialist and I can't tell you the name of this flower. Can you help me? The bee seemed to enjoy it, I can assure you.

Hi Hercules,

Congrats! Nice try. Great result! Nice to see the colours...the purple, the golden yellow etc. The colours are vibrant. The shot is crisp too.

Quick thought....Could you have used a higher f stop to get more of the flower in focus? How much of the image would have altered that way?

After seeing your shot, wondering if you have shot the same in a more vertical POV so that we could see what the bee was doing inside the flower. If you have it, do post it.

This is one of the most beautiful macro shot I've ever seen.
And this is your first experiment at macro shots, this is great, I can't imagine your future macro shots.
The colours of the flower is my favorite colour, I love purple and lilac tones very much, and the moment you have captured is great! Little bee is working :) and you're right this work should be the best in the world :)

I know something about macro's you can see them on treknature and here on trekearth. Yes I am a little bit a macro specialist. Your shot is realy nice, it had been realy good when you had an other pose with the bee, the pov could be better, the dof is good,I know for sure that this can be done better. farther nice job.

Hello Hercules,
The macro and its colours are fantastic with lots of details and with the flower's petaks creating nice visual impact.
You have a good first try even if I think it lacks a bit more of sharpness to be a perfect one, I think the focus is more on the left side of the floew when IMO the middle should be the part to be more focused.

Spring is celebrated in TE with joyous close up shares of flowers and invertebrae, and your unspecialtist approach to that genre is really successfull. I also like this flower a lot but unfortunately don't have any idea about its identification. Bee is essential here and the silky pinky texture of the leaves is thoroughly killig. Wonderful!

Great one Hercules!

Well composed, the centre of the flower off center. The colours are intense, I love them!
Also nice how all these little thingies in the flower stand up right, as if they are covering the bee. The sharpness is top. Although most of the image is subject and in focus, there are still a few elements out of focus, which is good, DOF is important with macro's! This leeds to concentration on flower and bee, great!

Yes, good macro, everything said above i guess...hmmm....i cant say very sure, think, it's one kind of chrysanthmums, i know Crete flora is very rich, specially spring...but yeah, i would say its just one type of chrysanthemums..they usually bloom in spring
