Lonely gaita, a photo from Etoloakarnania, Central Greece

Photographer's Note

Eighth post from Mesolonghi. "Gaita" is how they call these beautiful traditional boats of the lagoon of Mesolonghi. Fishing is one of the most important financial resourses of the region. Here's some more info that I "fished" in here :

"The main attraction of the region is of course the lagoon. It is divided in three different parts, the lagoons of Klesova, Mesologi and Etoliko. This whole marine region, along with the cultivable beaches that surround it, is a very important biotope. The small islands that are hidden inside the lagoon are Klesova, Vasiladi, Ae-Sostis, Shenias, Prokopanestos, Tholi, Paleopotamos, Dolmas and Poros, uninhabited small islands that played an important role during the liberating fight of the Greeks. On these islands there are vivariums that produce the famous fishes of Mesologi. You can visit all these vivariums in a day with a motorboat. The lagoon covers an area of 131 km2. Its production reaches 800.000 kilos of fish, 100.000 kilos of eel and 1.500 kilos of roe. The lagoon is also the best place for a good walk, especially during sunset, when the colors of its water take you to exotic places."

Lovely colours for this picture: the reflections of light and colour in the lake are stunning as well as the colours on the clouds and in the sky. The old boat is reflecting well on the water and is well placed.

This one is, imho, your greatest photo ever. Touching are the colors, awesome is the compo. Perfect proportions for my eye. Light, clouds, breeze on the water's surface, are so gently captured gems of nature. Tent on the boat is also a very interesting detail.
Sharpness is RAW sharpness again. This is perfetto.

Hi Hercules, I saw this one on the trekearth home page. Not surprised to see your name beneath it. I would be interested to know how you went about taking this photo. Do you just carry your camera around with you all the time and wait for the moment? Did you plan this one and return to the scene the next day? How much time did you spend on software editing? The end product is beautiful anyway...

I had to check what is in this theme, and the golden red light of this shot immediately captured my attention. perfect timing, I am sure that this magic light did not last long, and the boat and its reflection add just the right accent to the scene, so it is not just an empty expanse of the water. great shot, my compliments.
