Photographer's Note

Mystras.
Situated on Mt. Taygetos, near ancient Sparta, it served as the capital of the Byzantine Despotate of the Morea in the 14th and 15th centuries, experiencing a period of prosperity and cultural flowering. The site remained inhabited throughout the Ottoman period, when it was mistaken by Western travellers for ancient Sparta. In the 1830s, it was abandoned and the new town of Sparta was built, approximately eight kilometres to the east.(Wiki.)

perfect capture of Mystras situated on Mt
Taygetos I have never visited this
worthseeing place near ancient Sparta
and I would like to do so
nice pov the greenery in the foreground
creates a natural framing and the
valuable church creates a religious
atmosphere

Καλημέρα Δημήτρη,
πολύ όμορφο τοπίο, η παλιά πέτρινη εκκλησία λάμπει στον ήλιο και μας προσφέρει μια λιτή αλλά εύγλωττη περιγραφή της αρχιτεκτονικής και της πολιτισμικής παράδοσης της περιοχής. Μου αρέσει πάρα πολύ το βάθος του τοπίου και η ωραία και ενδιαφέρουσα θέα μέχρι τον Ταϋγετο. Πολύ καλή η κατανομή των διαφόρων στοιχείων μέσα στο κάδρο, απολαυστικά τα χρώματα. Συγχαρητήρια και ευχαριστώ!

Hello Dimitris,
the ruins have been preserved very well in this place and one can still admire to beautiful shapes of Byzantian architecture, which personally I like very much. The POV you chose to present the buildings is great as it includes in the image not only the main subject but also plenty of lovely panorama which spreads at the bottom of the mountains. Gorgeous colors and masterly managed light add to the stunning result.

What a vast and simply stunning landscape not only in color rendition but the refine elements well interacted together; the lead-in stretches into the valley deep down below with the beautiful clouds above. Lots of green is valuable in contrast to the old dwelling which has stood the test of time making a strong foreground base. The lighting is great with so much to look at. A superb capture and thks for sharing. Congrats

Marvelous landscape photo from the height of the hill down and over the green big valley.
The ancient ruins and old difice near, red roof-tops contrast greatly.
The high cypress pointing upwards onto the white clouds on far horizon.
Nicely taken the moment, favorable light on the beautiful view.

There is something here that reminds me so much of Sicily. Not just the architecture, the landscape and the atmosphere. An excellent vertical frame, beautiful rich colours, despite the strong sun and superb depth of field. What fascinating textures this building displays too. A charming photo.

I missed this picture but I didn't miss this view in reality.
I surely enjoyed my visit of Mystras in spring of 2009.
From the top of Mystras the view over the valley towards the mountains in the direction of Sparta is wonderful.
And the Byzantine churches are extraordinarily beautiful. I think I also have a picture of this church but from closer by. Here you framed it well with the cypress at the right.
Splendid colours. Excellent clarity and sharpness.
