The boy and the dolphin, a photo from Korinthia, Peloponnesus

Photographer's Note

First I would like to say that this is not a picture I took. I am a relative of this boy and his father. However it is such a unique moment in his life that I decided to post it to TE with permission.

Second, this photo was not taken in a water park. It is taken in the sea, close to the beach when a free dolphin came to the shore...

This photo was taken in Loutraki, Greece. The boy, Spyros is his name, is a champion swimmer for his age group in Greece. As a result he spends as much time in the water as he can. That evening as the sun was setting in the background a dolphin came to shore and started playing with Spyros. His father was the one that made the shot. It is a moment he will remember for the rest of his life.

I just cropped the photo a little after I corrected the tilt in the horizon and added some USM.

What a one-in-a-million shot! We don't see many like this on TE, thanks for posting it. Small technical detail: the horizon is still tilted. Try rotating about 1.25 degrees counterclockwise.

This is really a wonderful photo and the circumstances are amazing. I had a situation with a shrimp once, it jumped at me in the sea! It happened in the Black Sea, in Ukraine.

Is a splendid picture. But let me say that when I've seen the photo I've thought that was dangerous be so near of the water (dangerous for the camara, I mean). Isn't it?

About the photo, is very special moment and a good capture (perhaps the postprocessing has been important in the final result, anyway, good).

Exceptional capture. Good job keeping the camera dry and great job taking it at right time. lovely memory, good dof and nice light. Maybe, but just maybe the image will be more powerful if you crop some the lower part, it makes the horizon less in the middle of the image.

GREAT job though, i am jealous :-)

God I love this image; there is so much energy and emotion/motion caught in it - but in a surrealistic manner.... its VERY dreamlike.

I feel as though I am there next to the dolphin and Spyros, having the experience of my life also!
