Holy Monastery Loukous

It is found on the street Astrous-Tripoleos,four (4) kilometres from Astros.For the name Loukou exist a lot of opinions,the main one is emanated from Latin Lucus (= Holy forest with preys). Built in position with panoramic view in the plain of Thyreas and Argoliko, next to archaeological space that gives a lot of and appreciable excavate discoveries.

It has also from the four sides buildings,turret, cells. In the centre there is its Temple,around unfolds spacious courtyard with fountain, flower-beds with flowers, trees and all in these abbot the old-planan tree. It is building of IB century with marvellously reddish exterior,founded in a Christian temple of the E century.

Up to today it has rich and continuous history. Dedicated in the Transfiguration of Christ, it celebrates on 6 August. It is a feminine Monastery with exemplary fraternity.

Ιερά μονή Λουκούς

Βρίσκεται επί του δρόμου Αστρους - Τριπόλεως, τέσσερα (4) χιλιόμετρα από το Αστρος.Για το όνομά της ЁΛουκούЁ υπάρχουν πολλές απόψεις, κυριότερη αυτή που θέλει να προέρχεται από το λατινικό Lucus (= Ιερό δάσος με θηράματα). Κτισμένη σε θέση με πανοραμική θέα στον κάμπο της Θυρέας και τον Αργολικό, δίπλα σε αρχαιολογικό χώρο που δίδει πολλά και αξιόλογα ανασκαφικά ευρήματα.

Έχει και από τις τέσσερις σχεδόν πλευρές κτίσματα, πυργίσκο, κελιά. Στο κέντρο ο Ναός, γύρω του απλώνεται ευρύχωρη αυλή με σιντριβάνι, παρτέρια με λουλούδια, δένδρα και σ΄ όλα αυτά ηγούμενος ο γερο - πλάτανος. Είναι κτίσμα του ΙΒ΄ αιώνα με θαυμάσια κοκκινωπή εξωτερική όψη, θεμελιωμένος σε χριστιανικό του Ε΄ αιώνα.

Σταυροειδής με τρούλο, εύκολα στους τοίχους του διακρίνονται ένθετα αρχαία ανάγλυφα και επιστύλια σαν πανωκάσσια κελιών. Είναι τετρακιόνιος με δάπεδο από θραύσματα πολύχρωμων μαρμάρων. Τοιχογραφίες, όσες δεν διαβρώθηκαν, άριστες, καθαρές άρχων του ΙΖ΄ αιών. Ιερά Λείψανα και τίμιο ξύλο στο Ιερό. Ακμάζει κατά τον ΙΖ΄ αιών. Και μέχρι σήμερα έχει πλούσια και συνεχή ιστορία.
Αφιερωμένη στη Μεταμόρφωση του Κυρίου εορτάζει στις 6 Αυγούστου. Είναι γυναικεία με υποδειγματική αδελφότητα.

A fine warm light does justice to this fine monastery immersed in the green vegetation. Its style seems Byzantine, one I've never seen before in the Greek islands where I've been (Cyclades). There's a fine chromatic contrast between the warm color of the stones and the intense blue sky and green vegetation, and the building is well framed.

I notice the nicely decorated architecture, the fine details makes the monastery stand out!
Framing with the lush vegetation works well, and the deep green contrasts well with the walls of the building...

I really like very much these tine pretty Byzantine churches. Unfortunately when visited Greece I did not have a good camera with me. But I guess I have to go there again some day.
This architecture is so different from the rest of the Europe.
Really picturesque, and here you have a nice framing with attractive plants around it.

The monastery was under shining daylight, enhanced its bricks, dome and windows to the smallest details.
