Koules, a photo from Iraklion, Crete

Photographer's Note

The Venetian fortress of Koules dominates the entrance to the Venetian harbour of Heraklion. The Venetians called it the “Sea Fortress” (Castello a Mare or Rocca a Mare), but today it is known by its Turkish name, Koules, a corruption of Su Kulesi (Water Tower). It is one of the most familiar and beloved monuments of the city, and the symbol of Heraklion.

Today the fortress of Koules gazes proudly out across the Sea of Crete, reminding us of the glory of Venetian Chandax. It is haunted by legends that Cretan rebels were horribly tortured in its damp, dark room.

Hi Nasos,absolutely perfect talking about the quality and very nice view of the port of the Crete main city,this blue of sky is perfect to contrast the warm colors of castle ruins,the best details and exposure too.Have a nice evening and thanks,luciano

L'insertion des deux nuages est d'un bon impact.

Καλησπέρα Νάσο,
πολύ όμορφη εικόνα από το λιμάνι του Ηρακλείου και ορισμένα από τα πιο αγαπήμένα χαρακτηριστικά του. Ιστορία και αναψυχή συνυπάρχουν με πολύ ιδιαίτερο, συγκινητικό αλλά και ευχάριστο τρόπο. Μου αρέσει πάρα πολύ το βάθος, το φως και τα χρώματα της εικόνας σου. Ο ουρανός με τα δυο συννεφάκια είναι υπέροχος και υπάρχει μια εκπληκτική καθαρότητα τόσο στη σύνθεση όσο και στην ατμόσφαιρα. Συγχαρητήρια και ευχαριστώ!

il panorama, molto bello, sarebbe stato molto piщ anonimo senza quelle due nuvole, proprio un bel colpo, che aggiunge un effetto splendido alla foto.

Les deux petits nuage font une petite course comme ils se suivent et quelle vue ce bleu de l'eau et du ciel cette entrйe de port avec cette architecture grandisoe compo et vue mervielleux.

πολύ όμορφη η 'θαλασσογραφία' σου από όμορφο Ηράκλειο και συγκεκριμένα από τις Κούλες.Μου αρέσει η πανοραμική θέα με το μικρό λιμάνι με τα πλεούμενα να συμπληρώνουν το σκηνικό και να κάνουν τη θέα μοναδική.

only been to this fortress once, but this is just how I remember it. Lots of Greek blues in this immaculate shot, which has perfect clarity detailing and wonderful duo clouds. Eyes in the sky.

The two small white clouds are exactly two eyes above the fishers port
Your picture is wonderful taken with a very nice view about these area.
Perspective and depth be superb.

Amazing view, good presentation of Crete. I have never been there, but I was on Corfu and there is the old Venetian fortress in Corfu town too. Excellent postcard style.
