Photographer's Note
In Greece, fishing for swordfish is carried out using surface longlines that can be as long as many tens of kilometres and drift in the open waters. Setting the longline, searching for it and retrieving it from the water are procedures that usually last many hours, sometimes under unfavourable conditions.
In the Mediterranean Sea, other tactics, such as driftnets, have also traditionally been used; the latter, however, have been banned by the E.U. due to the entanglement of other organisms that are under conservation status, such as birds, marine mammals and marine reptiles.
Here, a swordfish caught by a drifting longline is hooked by the fishermen to be taken onboard.

Ciao Vangelis
is a dramatic moment that you have catched. the game of lines that you have found would have been more interesting with a closer pov. moreover I would have valued the thread putting it in a different position. the clear blue is interesting also, like the pov from the high that cancels a horizon. the stopped look of the fish is of terrible effectiveness. compliments.
ciao, have a good week

Hi Vangelis,
Wonderful capture at the catch moment. The blue is really inspiring and prominent in this pic. But the blue of the line couldn't have been avoided at this POV. But clear picture showing the underwater fins, the steel hook and the sword of the fish. Best is the blue eye looking so still..difference between death and life.

Βαγγέλη καλησπέρα,
'έπιασες' μια πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα φωτογραφική στιγμή για εμάς αλλά δεν νομίζω και για το ξιφία.Μου κάνει εντύπωση το τεράστιο αγκίστρι και το ότι το έφερε τόσο κοντά στον προβλήτα.Αλήθεια το ψάρεψε απ΄ εκεί;
Σε χαιρετώ,Δάνος

Kalimera dear Vangelis
I love swordfish, in Italian my dad calls it "pesce spada"...delicious. What an amazing decisive moment you have captured. The colour of the water is amazing and matches the colour of the fish's eye. Nice work.
