Photographer's Note

The Carnival satisfies a uniquely human desire: namely that of assuming another identity at least once a year and just letting your hair down, or as the locals say "jeck sein". Cologne has been a traditional stronghold for the Carnival since the Middle Ages. The "fifth season of the year" as it is called, begins on 11th November - the eleventh of the eleventh - and slowly culminates during these "crazy days" into a huge, multifaceted public festival until it ends on Ash Wednesday.

Perfect title, Hermann, because it's the lovely solemn stillness of her pose that makes this shot I think. It's in such contrast with the costume and make-up. The framing, colours and dof are all first class. I like it very much. I would however consider cropping just a fraction from the top.

O yes, you see and hear nothing else anymore. Also here in Belgium the Carnival craze is contaminating a lot of people. A nice tribute to the festivities.

That's a fantastic moment of stillness (great title) - it's as if the young person is frozen (not cold) in thought and feeling and all movement ...and then the contrast of that to the costume - a wonderful counterpoint - really very nice indeed! Nice contrast and good use of the bokeh.

Oh yes, even during such an event, one has to be 'alone' every once in a while. Good moment you captured here, Hermann, the little egg seems to be quite tired.

realy this is well done by teh face dйailed on the good controled DOF for the background. quality of colors is great but what I prefer is naturaly the attitude in this costume to be read on the Kid's face.
