Photographer's Note

A cable car across Rhine river counted among the highlights of 2011 Federal Garden Expo at Koblenz, as this had never been done before except for the same kind of event at Cologne in 1957.

The original concept said that the cable car should be operational for four years and then torn down as its existence was considered hazardous to the UNESCO World Heritage status of middle Rhine valley. The International Council on Monuments and Sites ICOMOS also demanded in 2013 that it should be dismantled - which caused some fear for the locals.

Luckily, on her 37th session at Pnom Penh, UNESCO decided to allow the cable car until the end of its technical lifespan in 2026.

RMS Goethe from 1913 is the last real steamer on the river, while MS Confluentia is from 2009.

Taken on film with Canon A1.
