Nuernberg - ruins of the Zeppelin Tribune.
Nuernberg is one of the few places in Germany where you can still see what remains of Nazi architecture.
I had wanted to see this site - the Nazi party rally grounds - for a long time. after all the photos, the documentaries, the movies, I felt the need to see with my own eyes the monumental excesses and delirious aesthetics of those years. what you see in the picture is what remains of the Zeppelin grandstand, facing the Zeppelin field. on a huge area (11 squared km), Hitler's architect, Albert Speer, has envisioned a series of gigantic projects - a stadium, the Great Road, the field of Mars, the Congress Hall, etc -, of which only a few were completed before the war. the rest never went past foundations stage, with WWII putting a final stop to the construction.
the congress hall is today a documentation centre and an interactive museum for the history of the Nazi party and the horrors of its regime.
in the WS you can see a different view of the grandstand.
here's an archive photo of the Zeppelin field and the grandstand, for you to get an idea of the dimensions of these megalomaniac buildings:

Hello Cristina,
The title of this photo could also have been Knocking on hell's door. It's still hard to fully grasp what happened here some 70 years ago. Seeing it with your own eyes sometimes helps to understand better. I like that you found two younger persons at the doors, because the new generations need to come here to keep the memories and knowledge alive. i also like the contrast of the light wall and the dark steps.
Kind regards,
Gert
