Photographer's Note
I just lost the 200 word note that accompanied this photo, in the process of uploading it. Gremlins in the system, still. Let's try again...
Anyway, it's the Old Town Hall in Munich, built between 1460 and 1470 in the Gothic style beside the city's central square, the Marienplatz. Most photos seem to be taken from the square, but not this one, which I took on a whirlwind walk around central Munich in April. Changes made during the Renaissance period were later removed and the building returned to its Gothic glory in the 1860s. The Old Town Hall, along with the New Town Hall - also on Marienplatz - was so badly damaged during World War 2 that it had to be rebuilt, a job not finished till 1975 in accordance with the original 15th century specifications.
I noticed a long time after taking the shot that the aircraft which left the sky trails had just commenced a new one - but you'll have to look closely to see it, perhaps on the higher resolution version.

Hello Andrew,
A well framed image showing us this diverse ensemble of architecture that looks lovely in the well managed afternoon light. Pleasing warm/cool tonal contrasts and excellent clarity.

Hello Andrew,
As always, you have written an interesting note about this place. And, what's more, I can empathise with you about your difficulties suffered during your upload of this picture - the very same thing happened to me yesterday when I uploaded my picture of the London "rickshaw" (and thank you for critiquing that one so kindly) - my picture appeared but my note disappeared off to somewhere the other side of Andromeda for some unexplained reason and, like you, I had to recompose it. Jolly irritating. In fact, recently I've tended to copy anything I write here before I click the "send" button so that I can always re-do critiques, etc. should the process fail. Ho, hum.
This is a delightful view of the tops of these splendid buildings, beautifully portrayed against a clear blue sky bearing a St. Andrew's cross as well as the tiny beginnings of another vapour trail. The oblique lighting on the clocktower and the building with the verdigris spire is lovely and gives them a three dimensional aspect so clearly. Beautiful light and fine vibrant colours, a strong composition and exquisite details and sharpness.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Andrew,
I have become extremely careful when uploading photographs and always copy the notes before I post the photograph. Like you, I lost notes a couple of times ....!!! enough said!
I find this a most unusual shot, to see the upper parts of so many buildings with such different styles, though their colours are not too dissimilar. It gives an opportunity to study their details without being side tracked, which are sharp and precise.
The jet trail in the b/g adds quite a different character. It is like a naughty boy playing, or pulling faces, behind the backs of some very important, upright figures!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Up-lead of a notes is every time a trouble, I don't why, also at my.

An excellent composition and nice presentation.

Have a nice day,

Hello Andrew,
It also happened to me several times that my note wasn't uploaded. Also the name of the place was missing. I always write my notes in a Word file that I also save. I still have all my notes. I find it terrible having to start over something :)
Very elegant towers and spires nicely on a row.
The 'X' seems to highlight the green spire.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Andrew.
A gorgeous image, with details of the tower and as curious auction of buildings, left cross in the sky, aircraft contrails is a curious detail.
Excellent composition and sharpness.
Superb lighting and color.
Nicely done. I like it.
You have a good day.
Best wishes.
Luis.

Hi Andrew,
I guess I haven't looked up so carefully myself, as I didn't recognize those roof structures.
Yes, the style is fascinating. Weather is lovely. And those two contrails make an X that marks the spot :)

Hi Andrew,
old architecture(even if it is rebuilt) makes me happy. Few things beats the happiness to walk in historic parts of a city, admire the buildings and perhaps stop for a beer in a restaurant. This shot gives us a small glimpse of some beautiful buildings, and a X sky trail as an extra bonus, tfs!
Have a nice evening/

Hello Andrew,
it's interesting you noticed it was the same plane that left all the trails in the sky over the city. Among a thousand other issues, it's also such trails that have raised a debate in Greece:) Your graceful composition shows us both important architectural characteristics of the city and a "daily life" scene in the sky. I like very much the sweetness of the light and its effect on the colours. The play of light and shadow adds graphic charm to the scene. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
Ourania

Hi Andrew
A delightful architectural shot as if that each individual is competing one another on an equal footing. I love the sublime clarity, vividness of colours and detail but above all the filtering warm light makes this look so graceful, while the rare xross lends the extra bonus rather than distraction. A well executed shot inevitably with satisfactory result. Congrats, tfs.
Best regards

As if the planes were trying to cross out the sky...
This bizarre picture makes the most of those otherwise quite annoying airline stripes!

Hi Andrew,
I love Munich, I spent 4 years of my life over there. Beautiful town the architecture is stunning and the area of Marienplatz is simply jaw dropping. Here you show one of he lovely buildings around that square. Indeed it is often misleading: people usually think the other one is the old city hall.
Nice less popular angle, the real highlight are the plane trails indeed as if the planes were trying to write something in the sky. The geometry got very much enhanced by that.
Lovely composition!

Hello Andrew,
The strong backlight has been well managed. I also took a more conventional shot like this. Love the X where you've made the jet trails work for you. So often, they do not. Tfs!
