Photographer's Note
Soubran is a village and commune in South-West France in the département of Charente-Maritime.
In 2016 it had a population of 382. Unlike many French villages of a similar size it has managed to retain some local shops, notably a baker's, a butcher's, a post office, a bar/restaurant and a small grocery store. It also boasts a inevitable church, a mairie and a war memorial plus a school and a library.

Bonjour, cher Stephen,
C'est cela la France, des petits villages qui gardent jalousement leur patrimoine. Peu d'habitants en général, mais toujours la recherche d'entretenir le tissu du passé.
J'aime beaucoup cette prise de vue;
Amitiés.

Hi Stephen
Another good photo from this village. The building behind the memorial loks like it may have been a railway station in its past life?

Hello Stephen
A very well framed view of the memorial with the building and the church tower in the distance. Excellent light - utilized to good effect - colours and sharpness. The flags add an attractive touch of colour to the picture.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice weekend.

Hi Stephen,
The flags are an eye-catcher. The point of view is showing the details of the war memorial and of the building in the background. The light is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Salut Stephen,
Bon effet de perspective avec ce cadrage et ce monument aux morts en avant-plan, cela donne un intéressant effet de perspective, bonne gestion aussi des contrastes de lumière.

Hello Stephen,
As I have been away for a while, I browsed your archive and just had to choose this photograph.
The clarity is excellent but I was mainly drawn to it because of the composition. I like how you have situated the memorial so strongly in the frame, then slowly eased us out of the scene by way of the diminishing building, to end at the church spire. It's beautifully balanced.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
Chucking it down here! Ughh!

Hello Stephen,
An interesting note and a fine photograph of this war memorial which is enhanced by the contre jour lighting illuminating the flags gracing its top. I very much like your strong diagonal composition and the open space on the left.
Glorious light, fine colours and exquisite details and sharpness.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Stephen,
charming town so nicely captured here.
The war memorial certainly has the most interesting design among all the elements captured here so you have well chosen it to be your foreground.
Nice geometry too.
Also I like the presence of the flags which add color and confirm the location.
Great reportage,

it is very small, but has nice details. interesting as every place in france and UK has a war memorial, a mark of the successive tragedies in these countries.

Hello Stephen,
I like your POV that presents two sides of the war memorial and show the building(s) as an extension of it. Good light management into the sun. 👍🏻👍🏻
Regards,
MT
