Photographer's Note
Good Morning Friends,
I called my photograph 'Upside Down' for obvious reasons but it brought back some memories that until that moment, I had completely forgotten.
When my children were very small, this sort of image fascinated them and we used to make up the most marvellous stories (marvel meaning wonderful) about the magical fishes that lived in these upside down houses! Ripples in the reflections could mean anything from an octopus knocking at the door to the baby fishes having a zealous pillow fight (well seaweed fight, if you understand that the baby fishes sleep on seaweed)
I hope this makes sense to people who are non-English speakers. I must say, it gave me a lot of fun stirring up such long-forgotten memories!
Have a great day, Bev :-)
I have to admit, along with lots of other complainers, that this photograph has been enlarged to its detriment and looks much sharper on the Beta version!

Hello Bev,
Ah, ha, so you agree with me now! Yes, I see that you uploaded this picture at 595 pixels in width and, at that resolution, it looks beautifully clear and sharp. But here, on "new" TE, it's been enlarged to 800 pixels wide and, quite honestly, it has lost all that sharpness and "bite" completely. Oh, I do hope that they manage to get this problem fixed very soon. I and others have certainly posted messages to the administrators on the forum so we'll wait and see. In the meantime, I guess, the answer is either to post pictures bigger than 800 pixels in width ot else just look at "beta" TE all the time.
Anyway, those technical issues (which are not your fault) aside, this is a beautiful photograph with lovely light, colours and sharpness and glorious reflections of the boats and houses in the calm water. A very fine composition and an interesting note too.
Lovely!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Bev,
I like your composition that presents the sky in the reflection at the bottom of the image but excludes it(mostly) from the top. Lovely, sharp detail in the top with abstract, ripple obscured detail in the reflections. Terrific note.

AW, 'Ouest France', know that sign a mile away!
Wow Bev, what were you & your children on??? Lovely idea though!
Looks like the owners of 'PL721820' (lovely name for a boat!!) ran out of paint.
Shame the tops of the buildings got cut off, seeing as there is plenty of blue water below that could have been put to better use.
Great photo & love the commentaries too.

Bonjour Beverley
Un bon de format pour cette photo très réussie. Les reflets tout en zig-zag ont du charme.
Amitiés et bon week-end.

Hello Bev,
A lovely little anecdote to go with this delightful composition. I like the composition and the amount of space given over to this lovely upside-down reflections. Light and colours are most appealing and sharpness very good on the TE beta site. One just wonders how much longer this is going to remain a beta site?
To answer your question I was able to include the whole of the Town Hall, but the top bit which is a rather splendid dome, was completely covered in scaffolding. On balance, I thought it better to crop that.

Hello Bev
love the story that accompanies this shot. Stories our parents told us as kids mean so much especially when you see something that sparks a memory, it makes you smile and all the more so when those parents are sadly no longer here. A beautiful image that has a beautiful motive. An accomplished and enjoyable capture.
Enjoy the weekend - B.

Hi Bev,
Very fine reflections in the calm water but I find myself studying the details "above" with more interest. Looks like a very typical French seaside town where I find a little restaurant too. Did they offer oysters too?
Kind regards

Hello Bev,
oh dear, now you have given me a problem,as an avid Firefox user up until now, all of your images have been pin sharp, now for some reason I have to do a right click and view image to get this nicely composed image anywhere near the sharpness that you intended.Oh well...
I do enjoy the upright format and the reflections both in the water and in your note.
Early sunshine has disappeared for the day here.
Warm regards Les.

On my screen this looks OK9Very OK even), Beverly, and what a charm.
The reflection with the blue sky), contrast superbly with the old urban scene and boats along.
The red spots like the car, signs and flowers and the yellow wooden frame, added the missing colors. Alltogether, a place I did not know about, that in it's simplisity has wonderful beauty.
Have a nice weekend,
Ike

Hello Bev,
This is a fine photo of what looks like a cosy town. The colours and reflections are superb, and there is generally a good atmosphere among the houses and boats.
It was brought to my attention that this photo had lost some sharpness when it was enlarged by the TE server. I see the difference with the beta version, otherwise I would not have tought much about it. I fear the only way to avoid having photos stolen from the internet is to never upload any anywhere. Making them very small, or adding a copyright stamp all over the picture, like some people do, spoils most of the fun watching them. I have found a number of my pictures on other sites, but as long as they are not obviously commercial I don't really care. In most cases at least they have given me credit for the shots.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Bev,
First off, I have to say...I'm quite intrigued by the chocolate eyeballs you mentioned, I hope you saved a couple for me. :) Hope you had plenty of little "ghosts" come around and gobble them up. :)
I really like what you did here with the composition, a tad unorthodox on the top side by cutting short the buildings....but I love the effect it has in the reflection seeing the entirety of the scene. A wonderful approach and smart execution which puts the mind into motion to analyze the overall visual.
Clear, sharp and imaginative. Very well achieved! Enjoy the weekend. Take good care.
Friendly wishes,
Jason

Hello Bev - Shimmering reflections take us into a dream world Bev and I quite understand what you mean about the wonderful stories borne from such scenes.
Nicely composed with good balance and use of the negative space in the FG adding a lightness to the scene.
Have a lovely weekend
Rosemary
PS. Do I 'see' a children's story book in the future?

Hello Beverley,
When scrolling up and down I've noticed that you can make 2 out of one capture; the lower part with this beautiful reflections could be a unique entry as well. Anyhow maybe you'll try it aswell.I have made a WS and posted, hope you'll like it.

Hello Bev,
Wonderful reflections with a striking warm cold color contrast between the reflected blue sky and the reddish yellow facades of the buildings along the waterfront. The blue boat in the middle accentuates the effect. Excellent sharpness and saturation. Tfs!

Hi Bev,
Very creative composition with some of the houses kept in the scene while their upper part being visible only in the reflection.
I like weather like this, the magnificent light offers amazing composition opportunities in a harbour.
I thought I will drive by my own car to the Northern France someday, but it is quite a trip from the Northeast and now I am not sure anymore with all the Brexit complications.
Very interesting story, in English you have also this expression Down Under for Australia...
Kind regards,
M
PS
Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your understanding, I was not sure whether people would get what I meant there. I think because you know the northern castles well, you better know what I mean. There are indeed a lot of workshop opportunities in even small castles around. I had a feeling that for people in the south the access to such attractions is quite limited...
