A snow blanket, Valleraugue

One view.
Another view.

The snow blanket on the chalets of the Esprou village, in the Valleraugue municipality, in the CVENNES, near the MOUNT AIGOUAL.

The CVENNES are mountains, part of the Massif-Central, extending in the districts of Lozre and Gard, whose culminating points are the peak of Finiels in Lozre to 1699 m, the AIGOUAL MOUNT in Gard with 1567 m.

The MOUNT AIGOUAL is a granitic mountain, culminating point to 1567 m of Gard and second culminating point of Lozere after the mount Lozere 1699 m, is a south-eastern projection of the Massif-Central mountain. It is remarkable by its panorama, its climatology. In clear weather, one discovers on 300 km of ray, the Mediterranean, the mount Lozere, the Mounts of the Cantal, the Pyrenees, the Alps.
One discovers there the top close of Portalet of 1565 m, and of course the large causses and the surrounding Cevennes.
The watershed between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean crosses the summit part. Several rivers take there their source of which Herault.

A weather station was built of 1887 to 1894, a such strong castle. Its weather observatory is the last in France, being occupied by the men. The climatic conditions are very hard, Aigoual recoit on average 2,5 m of rain per annum. In more than one table of orientation, the station proposes a museum on the history of meteorology.

The climatic conditions are very hard, Aigoual receives on average 2,5 m of rain per annum.

Numbers average annual days of freezing: 144; days of heat 25 C: 0; days of rain: 170; days of strong wind 16 m/s: 265; days of fog: 241; days when the ground is covered with snow: 118.
It is also the place of Metropolitan France where the most important office pluralities of rain over short periods are recorded, in particular during the PISODES CVENOLS in autumn. The strongest annual office plurality, 4 015 mm was recorded in 1913.

VALLERAUGUE is a French commune, located in the department of the Gard of the Languedoc-Roussillon area, populated of 1070 Valleraugois in 2009, distributed on 78.4 km, that is to say 13.7 hab./km.

Valleraugue history.

Valleraugue is a municipality of the National Park of the Cvennes.

The Mont-Aigoual and the the river the HRAULT source, are on the territory of the municipality of Valleraugue.

_ The HRAULT is a coastal river of south of France of 160 km length. It takes its source in the department of Gard, in the Solid mass of Aigoual to 1228 m of altitude. It is thrown in the Mediterranean in Agde in the department of Herault. It crosses a catchment area of 2900 km. Its very irregular flow is of 52 m3/s on average annual, but can reach 4000 m3/s at the time of strong risings. After having been a descending torrent of the important slopes, it slips and is boxed in a valley bored in limestones of causses, then is spread out a little in the coastal plain. Its very irregular course and sometimes very violent one is not easy to domesticate. One finds however there some old forgotten mills, built like fortresses to resist the fury of his spectacular risings. The Hrault Description.
