Photographer's Note

The architecture of the choir of the cathedral Saint-Etienne of Auxerre is remarkable. Built from 1215 till 1245, it is about a pure masterpiece of the ogival sacred art.

Heconsists of four rectangular straight spans and a profound semicircle in 7 pieces (12 meters). As the nave and the transept, its rise is three floors (big arches, triforium blind and high windows). Behind the triforium decorated of graceful one and fine colonnade, is a gallery. The columns of the big arches are surmounted by capitals with plant motives. Some among which those of the apse are very fine and cylindrical. The entirety gives an impression of grace and fickleness.

The choir is closed by a beautiful railing of style Louis XV, made by Sbastien-Antoine Slodtz (brother of Michel-angel Slodtz).
