Since the year 2000, in a restored medieval district, the city proposes many gravers of secondhand booksellers and craftsmen, dedicated to the trades of the book.

The novelist Rйgine Deforges originating on the town, took part in the creation of the biennial living room of the book of Montmorillon. She is also at the origin of the idea of the City of the Writing and the trades of the book, unique in France, following the example of other foreign cities.

Rйgine Deforges, French writer born on August 15th, 1935 in Montmorillon, adopts a very free tone, to defend the women's right to only assume itself, including in their sexuality.

She published in 1981 "La Bicyclette Bleue", "The Blue Bicycle", first volume of a trilogy which also understands “101 avenue Henri Martin” and "le diable en rit encore".
She republished under the title “Irene”, “Le Con d'Irиne”, erotic novel of Louis Aragon clandestinely published in 1928. the book was seized for its erotic contents!…

One can see in Montmorillon, The Pont Vieux, the old bridge, gothic bridge of the 15th 16th centuries which crosses Gartempe river, and The chapel Saint-Laurent of the 12th century, like l'Octogone, chapel of cemetery of the 12th century presenting of old paintings on the veins of the vault. One sees also l'йglise Notre-Dame, of the 12th 14th centuries.

These three monuments belong to the “Valley of the Frescos, "La Vallйe des Fresques”.

The VALLEY of GARTEMPE RIVER concentrates from Saulgй to Saint-Savin, in Vienna, several builbings decorated with frescos of the 11th to 19th centuries, and is called for that, the FRESCOS VALLEY.

The GARTEMPE is a river of Poitou and of the Limousin, which takes its source close to the village of Pйtillat, the commune of Peyrabout in the department of Creuse, and is thrown in the Creuse river close of "la Roche-Posay" in the department of Vienne, after a way of almost 200 kilometers. It crosses remarkable canyons in granitic landscapes, downstream from "Les Portes de l'Enfer", "The Hell Doors” to Lathus in Vienne.

Montmorillon is a french commune, located in the department of Vienne of the Poitou-Charentes area, populated of 6898 Montmorillonnais in 1999, divided on 57 kmІ, that is to say 121 hab./kmІ.

Of medieval origin, Montmorillon proposes to the visitors a broad inheritance, made of houses, private mansions, chapels, churches etc…

Elle est pimpante cette ancienne vitrine d'un rose vif. A une trentaine de kms de Rennes nous avons aussi une citй du livre а Bйcherel. C'est toujours intйressant d'y flaner pour dйcouvrir tous les ouvrages en vitrine.

As you may guess I am a fan of shop fronts and this one really jumps out at you. I like the perspective here and the use of the surroundings to provide an excellent contrast with its rich red tones. The lady walking down the street adds to the mood. Very good colours and sharpness. Well done.

A good one Joel helped by the red of the shop. I live in an area that promotes itself as Australia's booktown so can appreciate the sentiments of this photo.

Deforges n'etait pas dans le programme de mes etudes de la litterature francaise, mais je comprend que son role dans Montmorillon depasse l'impacte local. Belle illustration pour le sujet que je trouve valable et utile a aborder ce matin. merci Joel et bonne continuation. J'ai impression que tu sois la un peu pour moi aussi.

la couleur et le placement de la boutique attire irrйmйdiablement l'oeil, le soleil n'йtait pas au rendez vous mais j'espere que les amateurs de beaux livres йtaient nombreux pour apprйcier cette manifestation.

Hard to decided which one of your pictures here (including the WS:s) is the best one; they are all very good. A very fine idea with all these differently coloured store fronts! Must be a paradise for photographers!

fine details of this bookshop, yourr note is very interesting. That's the spirit of TE i think.
It is a very good POV with the diagonal of the building with its iron banister.

La prise de vue permet de voir les dйtails et les couleurs de la facade du magasin et des autres maisons. L'image est claire et nette. Il y a un bon contraste entre le rouge de la facade du magasin et la couleur des murs de l'йdifice. Bonne journйe.

Nous avons aussi en wallonie un village dйdiй aux activitйs du livre et qui d'ailleurs a ainsi retrouvй une vivacitй certaine.
J'aime beaucoup l'efficacitй de ton cadrage qui tire opportunйment parti de cette superbe devanture rouge. Notre oeil est ensuite attirй vers les autres maisons et la ruelle qui poursuit son chemin.

Quel endroit agrйable pour les amoureux des livres!
J'aime beaucoup ces devantures а l'ancienne, peintes de couleurs vives.
Le point de vue est trиs agrйable, avec la vitrine rouge en premier plan, dominant l'allйe qui descend! Cela donne vraiment envie d'y flanner!
