The village lies in a valley of lacustrine origin, somewhat flared where the village of Grand-Bornand developed. Instead the village of Petit-Bornand, located downstream of the river is narrow part of the Valley Terminal, a gorge.

The town of Grand-Bornand includes three major parts: the Bouchet valley, the valley Chinaillon and the village of Grand-Bornand located at the junction of two valleys.
