Photographer's Note

From 2014, on my little railway jaunt across the south of France, starting in Montpellier, finishing in Bordeaux. I'd never really seen Montpellier before, only stopping several times to change trains on the way to Barcelona. This time I stayed for a few days, and discovered that the old part of the city is a labyrinth of tiny streets and old buildings, full of character. It's easy to get lost if you just wander around.

And just wandering around is what should be done in a lovely place like this! Nice little street, given character by the lady sitting outside her shop enjoying the shady fresh air. Glad to see you posting again; you're my next-door neighbour today, so how could I not comment on your image?

nice the view of the narrow street of this section of Montpellier,with the light and the colour management to are captured superb.The sigh with the blue and blue as the eye catching of the image with the girl on the left to adds life in the image.

Perhaps a fan club of the Rolling Stones is housed where that signboard is ...
It's always a pleasure to wander around in those old parts of town and often you discover a surprising corner or street.
Good light management. Sometimes the side of the street in the shade can be too dark or the other side overexposed.

Hello Andrew,
The first time I visited Montpellier some twenty years ago, I wasn't very impressed, the walls were daubed with graffiti and it had a run down feel to it. When I visited again some seven or eight years ago, all the graffiti had been removed and I succumbed to its charms just like you. A lovely atmospheric image from the old part of town. Well managed light and shadow contrasts and some lovely textural detail. The man on his scooter is well placed and adds a touch of animation to the scene.

Hi Andrew,the pic hangs a bit to the right but no problem,nobody is perfect,and the composition is lovely,there is all the peaceful atmopshere of a walk inside the alleys of old Montpellier,and the exposure of the different light levels is a winner,i like it! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hello andrew, And what a joy to get lost in such a maze of narrow streets. beautiful composition. We can imagine that it was a hot day but here there is nice cool shadow. Excellent light management, beautiful composition. Nice inclusion of the lady having a beer or cigarette break.
