GRAČIĆE, a medieveltown of ancient origin, excitin history, rich culture and peaceful present. Even before the Roman Empire flourished Gračiće offered people shelter and a home. The name Gallignana dates back 2000 years from the times of the Gauls, whereas the Slavs after settling in Istria in the 6th and 7th century named it Gračiće. In written historic sources Gračiće is mentioned for the first time in 1199, while in the Middle Ages it had its "communal administration" headed by discrict-prefect, judges and advisers-elderly men. The traces of these times visible even today. The preserved medieval urban structure and numerous cultural and historical monuments are the reason why Gračiće has gained a status of protected site. By visiting Gračiće you enter a world of antiquities deeply rooted in westwrn European culture.
