Photographer's Note

Roofs in the old town of Dubrovnik, southern Croatia.
Dubrovnik, classified as a world heritage by the UNESCO, dates its history back to the 7th century, but most of the old town that exists today was built after an earthquake in 1667.
In 1991 and 1992 shelling by Serb forces caused extensive damage to the city. After the war careful restoration has taken place.

Hej Gert,
An excellent study in graphism, textures, colours and composition (and cropping). A very good observation! Apparently not politically correct... But still a very good photo!

Hej Gert,
this photo reminds me of a strange modernistic painting! (and, it seems, not to me only). Strangely laid lines of the tiles in the FG (believe it or not, due to the POV the layout reminds me of a skirt!) in combination with the tile lines in the upper part of the photo create an effect of something endless.
Concerning the colours, they are very good.

Concerning the note... and also some comments to the note... well, the cause is called "existence of the human race", and war has no nationality and no matter who wins we all lose! It's destructive and a disgustful thing and is also a matter of insane human mind.

Hi Gert,

Original photo of Dubrownik - only roofs. Fine geometry, nice colours. But for me the memories are important. Forty years ago I considered it the most beautiful town in the world. it was so splendid! Full of life and wonderful buildings. I would like to see it now, after these tragic events. Thanks for sharing

This is a super example of old craftsmanship portraying such strong architectural features and this one is right up there amongst the top. The textures, pattern and colour shades of the roof tiles add up to a splendid picture emphasizing the character of the place. Lovely shot homing in on the areas of interest on this roof. Congrats

this kind of tile was very used during colonial times in brazil. it is told the shapes were molded in the legs of the slaves who worked producing them.
nice view of this slice of the roof with a graphic aspect involved.

Hello Gert,
Saw this one on the "random photos" tab. Roof-tiles of Dubrovnik probably taken while walking along the old-town walls.
Diagonal lines in different directions, variable colors of each tile, but the whole makes this simple, yet a fine composition.
