Out of my archive 2017

The bridge is the passage to the nature reserve behind the farm.
Damme has very beautiful nature reserves.

This part delimits the southern part of the nature reserve "De Oude Stadswallen", between Polderstraat and Zuidervaartje (see also Dammesteenweg, Damse Vaart-West and Polderstraat). A first plot of this is purchased in 1982; gradually more plots are acquired or taken over. It concerns shallow water features, reed fields and swamp forest in the original canals and hay and meadows on the ramparts. The presence of, among others, "marsh fern" and the carnivorous aquatic plant "common bladderwort" prove the botanical value of the area. The area is managed by vzw Natuurpunt, which purchases a number of adjacent fields and meadows in order to close the old defense belt around Damme again. This nature reserve is accessed via a pedestrian bridge over the Zuidervaartje that connects to a municipal walking path that connects Damse Vaart-Zuid with Kerkstraat and the city center.

De foto is uitstekend van compositie, mooi gebalanceerd tussen de witte huizen met oranje daken links en de vaart met de rij bomen rechts. Aangenaam zacht licht ook.

Hello John,
This photo gives me a feeling of fresh air on a rather cold and wet day. The red roofs brighten the view dominated by the lightly clouded sky and the brown late autumn tones of the trees and bushes along the canal. The canal and the black street make two strong diagonals that are very good for the composition.

Hello John,

I wonder if the English word 'dam' (which means a barrier constructed to hold back water and raise its level, forming a reservoir used to generate electricity or as a water supply) has been derived from this Dutch word 'Damme'. There seems to be a lot of similarity.
It is good to read about Governments actively becoming involved in reinstating and protecting natural habitats.

Again, you have shown us a delightful scene. The opposing diagonals give us different viewpoints, too.
The road takes us to attractive, red-roofed buildings, whilst the canal gives us a superb sense of perspective following the tree line. Winter trees are very useful for this effect.
Altogether, a very attractive winter scene.

Hallo John, that bridge marks out the city from the neighbor nature reserve. The reeds turn golden when winter approaches. The tree branches are leaves less. Fine colors, good sharpness, instructive photo note, regards.

Hello John, as always you make a well considered compositions, and here you have made good use of diagonal lines to keep our eyes moving around the picture.
The sky reminds me of a watercolour painting, it is beautiful.
The canal with the trees and their reflection are eye catching.
From your archive? I am surprised that we haven’t seen such a lovely shot before.

This photo is a little different from your usual views of canals, but it's still there with its line of trees reflecting in the water. The bright, red colour of the roofs gives a nice contrast.

Dag John,
Het natte brugdek en de half bewolkte winterlucht met fikse buien en felle opklaringen bepalen de sfeer in dit aantrekkelijke prachtig gefotografeerde landschap.
