Bike trip to Knesselare 23km.

Liberation trip attracts Meetjesland, Flanders Belgium

I took the photo in Knesselare from the procession.
One hundred years after the end of the First World War, the liberation tour draws straight through the Meetjesland and Deinze. More than a hundred Belgian, British and French soldiers travel from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 August by Knesselare, Aalter, Zomergem, Nevele and Deinze.
The historic column consists of more than 100 'soldiers' who are fully equipped, as was the case during the liberation of 1918. There are horses, army vehicles and moving guns.
Shooting and fighting in scene are not part of it.

Hello John,
It's an interesting assortment of carriages participating in the parade, but no soldiers limping on clutches, wearing torn uniforms, as was probably the case far too often when surviving soldiers returned from the battlefields 100 years ago. The photo is as always very well taken, but my favourite part is the woman with the child watching the soldiers from beside the road.

Je vierde foto ... Dan moet ik er ййn gemist hebben.
Met je interesse voor de geschiedenis tijdens de wereldoorlogen en voor het Canada-Poland War Museum zal je ongetwijfeld massa's foto's genomen hebben tijdens deze herdenking.
Komen al die oude paardenkarren misschien ook uit het museum? Het moet niet makkelijk geweest zijn om nog zo vele elementen uit die tijd intact terug te vinden.
Prachtige, zeer heldere en scherpe foto!

Hi John, Now the broader view. Not only the soldiers on horseback but also field kitchen and other equipment. again, strange that only the mother with the small kid (and the photographer) are observing the event. Looks like a scene from the movie.

Hello John,

For me, this is the best photograph from the centennial event.
There is a fine flow of action from the f/g to a strong vanishing point.
There is also, a strong sense of history, created by the vehicles and their passengers.
I know you are not a strong fan of b&w but I wonder if that would have added an even greater sense of age and mood.

this may be the best of the 4 so far, but thats just my humble opinion. Why? Because we get a view of so many of the carriages and horses, not just one. Also, the clouds make a strong impact too. Funny to see only 1 group of people watching. fine post. cheers

Hallo John,
We krijgen hier een nog beter beeld van de stoet met de verschillende rijtuigen. De groene achtergrond en de blauwe lucht zijn prachtig en het zachte licht past heel goed bij de foto. Het contrast met de 'moderne' toeschouwer rechts is ook leuk.

Hello John,

A realistic reenactment of what it may have been like to watch the endless procession of soldiers marching off to war. The hospital wagon is unusual and the woman and child watching enliven the scene. Tfs!

What a perfect recreation with all these different carriages with a hundred years old, many young people will be surprised to see these vehicles, which once did a great job. It is a very nice way to commemorate the one hundred years of the end of the war.
A fantastic photo, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.

The carriages parade is a marvelous photography subject, and i can appreciate the charm of the old style and design of the wagons. At least the horses and people are "new" to the old war.

Hallo John, that procession commemorates the end of the first world war. Several horse carriages are parading in the village. The participants wear period clothes. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
