A visit to Bruges 2011, this picture comes out of my archive.

Corner Steenstraat - Market Bruges the name of the building “DE VIER WINDEN” reason of the name at this place it always blows from different directions, through the ligation of the building

From Steenstraat to 't Zand. Name from location to 't Zand. Originated on a sand ridge as a road that connected with Oudenburg via the Burg and the then Zand, Aardenburg. From 1127 to 1839 the so-called "Noordzand bridge" on the W. street side is located over the Smedenrei.
Cobbled street with almost straight route. Formerly residential function with increasing commercial and hospitality activities since the construction of the station in 1841-1844. Present mainly commercial character cf. the ground floor converted and repeated modernizations; to a lesser extent also habitation.
Quite homogenous row development with neoclassical impact, owing to the influence of the architecture of the station and the square architecture of 't Zand. The street scene is dominated by houses with plastered and painted frame facades from XIX, often as a conversion of stepped gables. Typical right windows in profiled frames, whether or not on cordon forming leakage thresholds, stepped gable, with central window of second construction. ornate wrought iron window rests and flagpole;

Een prachtige foto van deze twee straten, die beide vol met schitterende gevels staan, hier is goed te zien dat elk huis zijn eigen stijl en eigen details heeft: geen twee zijn hetzelfde. De vele mensen zorgen voor een levendige sfeer. Mooi fotowerk!

Hi John,

The prse3nce of the people is animating the scene. The point of view is showing a double perspective of the architecture of the buildings. The cloudy sky does not hurt the ouput of the colors. Have a nice dya.

Hallo John,
Je nam een goede plaats in waardoor we ver in beide straten kunnen kijken en de prachtige gevels bewonderen.
De lucht mocht op die winterdag dan helemaal overtrokken zijn, je slaagde er goed in om een heel klare foto te nemen.
Het hoekhuis heeft in iedere straat een ingang die elkaars spiegelbeeld blijken te zijn.
Uitstekende kwaliteit. Mooi gedaan.

A delightful in depth and perspective extending the eye on both sides of the beautiful buildings with firm foreground as a strong base. Great control of clarity, abound of good details to enjoy especially it's a joy to look at speck of vivid colour giving this a real boost visually, enhancing the whole capture. A very nice street view with a fine combination of beautiful buildings and people. From this point we see two streets going diagonally in different directions, giving a nice balance to the composition. The light and colours are fine in spite of the dull clouds.

Hello John, an excellent point of view that enables us to look along two streets, and admire the beautiful architecture.
My guess is that these buildings have looked like this for centuries.

Dag John
Dit lijkt wel een actuele foto met al die winden en dikke regenjassen. Het begint hier zo langzamerhand meer op een eindeloze herfst dan op een winter te lijken.
Te hoge temperaturen, te veel wind en te veel regen. Goed dat de deze prachtige foto nog in je archief had want het is geen weer om nu naar buiten te gaan om nieuwe foto’s te maken.

these are always fun scenes to view, they go off into completely different directions, as do our eyes. I wonder how this place looked hundreds of years ago when they were built :)

its a gloomy day, but still looks good with the diffused lighting. super clear and sharp presentation. you chose an effective angle. cheers

Hallo John, i like that lively street scene captured in the heart of winter in Bruges. It shows the city dwellers going about their business, walking, discussing. The shops occupy the buildings street levels whereas the storeys house apartments. Nice view of the architecture. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
