Sint-Michiel en Sint-Goedele

The cathedral was built with Gobertan stone from the quarries of Dilbeek. The vault height of the ship is 26.5 meters.
During the last quarter of the 20th century, the most intensive restoration campaign of St. Michael's Cathedral took place. That the medieval building had several construction problems (including inefficient positioning of the air bows) had been known for some time. During previous restorations one never succeeded in solving these construction problems. In some cases, they were even aggravated. In the last restoration, however, it succeeded in stabilizing the structure for a long time. A whole range of secondary problems, such as water seepage, was also thoroughly addressed.
A meridian line has been incorporated into the floor.

Beide rijen beelden en het orgel worden perfect scherp getoond.

The cathedral is magnificent and the excellently managed light gives full justice to the architecture and the spacious impression it makes. The fine DOF shows us the architectural details and statues in good sharpness all through the nave.

wow, thats a tall vertical! talk about making a visual stand out strongly! it seems to never end, it has so much height and power to it. Great to see the Pipe Organs on the left and all the statues along the walls. well illuminated as well.

An excellent interior shot of this superb cathedral. Your very tall crop emphasises the height and the many details. I actually like the face of the girl turning her head; it adds a down-to-earth human element to the grandeur of the architecture. As usual, a good note accompanies the photo.

Hi John,
This is a very impressive shot of Brussels cathedral !
It looks as if it was a B&W photo where you would hace selected just some parts in colour ! The golden organs stand out really well against the grey columns and statues, as well as the grey and white vaults.
Impressive perspective, and excellent management of the light and sharpness.

John, this photo brings back nice memories to me. I have been there some years ago and I was very impressed by this breathtaking church with its magnificent stained glass windows. The a bit outcentered view here works very well and shows the nave with its sculptures wonderfully. I like all the beautiful details which one cann detect here. Hoewel deze foto al wat ouder is, was het vandaag wel weer om hier naar binnen te gaan. Felle buien met natte sneeuw en hagel en zelfs een klap onweer maakte het buiten minder aantrekkelijk. En je prachtige foto laat zien dat er binnen ook voldoende vastteleggen is met onze camera.

Shining off-white walls, pillars, arches and high ceiling, wonderfully shown on this indoor's picture, John.

Catedral com um interior realmente maravilhoso. O teto tem um efeito interessante, as pilastras possuem belнssimas esculturas. As estruturas um pouco amareladas ganham um certo destaque. Bom enquadramento e formato vertical.

Hello John

Very nice overview of such a grand Cathedral.
The general view with guiding lines, pillars and domes leads the view perfectly towards the altar and the lovely glass paintings.

It does suprise me how well lit and open this cathedral appears. I do understand that the windows near the domed roof create this, but I just can't get over how well it works to create this bright enviroment.
Especially the hard light and shadows on the statues on the left hand side is fantastic.
