Saint Catherine's Church II, a photo from Brussels, Brussels

Photographer's Note

This is a second photo of Saint Catherine's Church in central Brussels. Often when taking pictures there buildings lamp-post, sign etc. that make it difficult to find a good POV. In my first picture I used wide-angle to keep them outside the frame. Here I have tried to make the other way round, to include them in my composition.

The area where the church is situated is called - Place St Catherine and is famous for its seafood restaurants. The church designed in 1854 by Joseph Poelaert, who also designed Palais de Justice.Tthe tower is left from the original 17th century church, but already in the 13th century Sainte-Catherine Chapel was situated here. The style is a mix of Roman, Gothic and Renaissance styles.

Hej Ulf,
There is a nice vertical accent in this photo and a refreshing combination of totally different architectural (and social) styles. As you describe in the note. this is a composition which most photographers spontaneosly would try to avoid but which actually can turn out very well.

Hello Ulf,

I see the Belgian beer in a good advertisement, Jupiler and Maes, Stella Artois real Belgian beers.
To the left see we wonderful the gotic window of the church.
Brussels has a lot lovely churches and buildings out of the rich time.
Nice perspective lovely colors too.

Beautiful architecture! But the highlight of this photo is of course the colourful beer signs. Unfortunately I donґt really enjoy any of these "industrial" beers, I am more for the Trappist types like Orval... But there are indeed a lot of interesting beers in Belgium!

Hi Ulf,
I know Brussels very well, I lived there for some months. At St Catherine, in Christmas times, there are small wooden houses from where you cand buy specific food, drinks, clothes or souveniers especially from Finnish, Sweedesh or Norwegian producers. Nice atmosphere there. In your capture you've managed to get the impressive church and three popular beers(but not the best of them:P). Well done.

I like the perspective created by the buildings at right and the contrast between modern and ancient.
The church is well lit by a warm light and all the buildings seem to point to the sky, as if something had to be looked for there. Curious how the two crossing clouds form an "X" just above the street lamp. An original and interesting composition.

The beer commercials contrast well with the house of worship across the street!
An interesting point of view that leaves different lines in the composition, with the summer sky as a fine background...
