Photographer's Note April!

A picture from our Easter weekend getaway near Malmdy in the eastern part of Belgium, not far from the German border. We spent three days there. We had great sunshine first, then this. Sometimes it snows in April. We should have known.

Malmedy (German: Malmnd) is a city in the East of Belgium. It was part of Germany until after the Great War, when Malmedy and the other eastern cantons were annexed to Belgium by virtue of the Treaty of Versailles.

The municipality includes several outlying villages and hamlet, including Bellevaux, where they make some great craft beers. Sadly the brewery and its annex bar and terrace was closed because of covid. Fortunately there were several places in Malmdy which sold this and other great beers from this area.

Just like neighbouring Waimes, Malmdy is a municipality in the French-speaking part of Wallonia with facilities for German speakers.

This is one of our favourite regions in Belgium.
