The Sint-Annarei is spanned by the Sint-Anna Bridge

The name "Sint-Annarei" refers to the neighboring district and parish of Sint-Anna to the east. Originally the street west of the rei (now Verversdijk) was called the Schottendijk, because of the Scottish merchants established there.

There is little clarity about the artificiality of the Sint-Annarei. Possibly it is the canalisation of the lower reaches of the Vuldersreitje, a watercourse that came from Assebroek. From 1127, the Sint-Annarei was part of the first city walls of Bruges. The Oude Molenpoort stood near the Molenbrug. Between 1623 and 1855, the Sint-Annarei was part of the canal between Ostend, Bruges and Ghent. After that, the Ringvaart took over this role. In 1750 all bridges over the Sint-Annarei were replaced by wooden (and later iron) swing bridges, to allow passage for larger ships. In the 1970s the bridges were replaced by the current stone bridges.

Interesantan pogled i trenutak, dobar tekst ...
Lepo pokazano mesto i trenutak, lepe boja, kontrastt, perspektiva i uhvaceni trenutak.
lepa arhitektura i fotografija.

Hallo John,
Net op tijd genomen wanneer de sightseeing boot onder de brug komt uitgevaren.
Aan het aantal inzittenden kunnen we zien dat deze foto reeds enige tijd geleden genomen werd.
Het zag er een heel mooie lentedag uit. Iemand heeft zich in het zonnetje op de trappen naast de kade neergevlijd.
Een deel van Brugge waar het er op beide kades nog rustig aan toegaat.
In de verte zien we de toren van de Sint-Gilliskerk, denk ik.
Helderheid, scherpte, diepte en compositie zijn onberispelijk.

You are my neighbour, today!
I can immediately tell that this was from your archives because of the crowd, happily packed into the sightseeing boat!

This is a beautiful setting, with the canal the attractive buildings, the bridge and whole scene brought to life with the couple on the canal-side and the launch surging through the water. You have chosen an excellent viewpoint so that there is a strong guideline, fine focal images and a superb sense of perspective.
The whole is really well exposed.

Hallo John,
De statige gebouwen aan beide kanten omlijsten de gracht, de brug en de straat met fietser heel goed. Het was een mooie en heldere dag. Het zonlicht zorgt nog voor een mooi contrast met de schaduwzijde links.

Hello John, interesting buildings, a boat on the canal full of people, and a cyclist heading your way, added together they make a lovely picture, very inviting.
I would love the walk these footpaths and see this for real.

I liked the simple shapes of the bridge and the diagonals of the canal. the girl in the bike is a nice detail in the compo.excellent.

A photo of the kind we have seen many times before, but it's a pretty view and you timed it well just after the sightseeing boat appeared from under the bridge. You were lucky to have a brightly dressed woman coming towards you on a bicycle. The colours and light have been excellently handled, as usual.

Definitely a slightly older photo with that crowded boat, although the streets are quiet. A good photo of the canal and surrounds.

Hi John,
very charming spot along the channel in this old town. I like the great sunshine which makes everything appear so colorful here. Also the presence of colorfully dressed girl on the bike adds some action, and we see of course a bot filled with tourists. Excellent reportage!!
