St. Nicholas Church Diksmuide Belgium
The original church was dedicated in 1144 by Bishop Milo van Terwaan and gradually expanded in the course of the thirteenth century. In 1333 the church was laid by fire in the ashes. Remainder of the original building is being processed in the new construction. Also in 1573 and 1672 the church was plagued by fire, resulting in the necessary restoration and repair work. During the First World War the church was completely destroyed. The German artillery, operating from Klerken, used the tower spikes as a landmark for the shooting of Diksmuide.
The Bruges architect Jozef Viйrin led from 1923 to 1925 the reconstruction of pre-war model. On May 27, 1940, one day before the end of the Second World War, the church was destroyed again when the Germans fought her with fire bombs. The subsequent restoration work led by the architects Joseph and Luc Viйrin continued until the early 50's..

Hi John,
Massive classic architecture looks quite distinctively Belgian. Those buildings are so rich in details. I especially like those blue and gold window shades. Sidelight is excellent for giving contrasty result.

Hallo John,
Deze heb je al eens eerder getoond. Alleen waren de kleuren toen meer gesatureerd.
Ik vind hem nog steeds even mooi en krijg weer eens zin om zelf daar te gaan kijken. Het komt er enkel niet van. Vrije tijd is zo beperkt tijdens de werkweken ...
Een prachtige architectuurfoto, mooi helder en scherp gepresenteerd en met aantrekkelijke wolkenlijnen in de lucht.

Wat een schitterende foto! De oude gevels van het stadhuis en de kerk op de achtergrond zijn prachtig, vooral de trapgevels. De kleine geel-blauwe luiken aan weerszijden van de kleine ruitjes en de bloemen aan de vensterbanken zijn aantrekkelijke details. Het licht en de compositie zijn heel geslaagd.

Only the modern parked car looks out of place here. The bg clocktower and belltower are magnificent. Good sharpness and I like the streaky cloud patterns in the sky. Tfs!

wow, what can I say about this? its just beautiful. Scenes like this make me want to travel to Brussels today right away.
I think i'd be very happy here. love how the sky and clouds make a large visual impact too, with the streaming clouds shooting outwards. the stone is pin sharp. lovely shot.

Beautiful towers and facades taken from a relative distant point to have all complex within the frame.
Tourists bus brought visitors which added life to the scene.

Wow .... impressive the architectural complex that form the Town Hall and the church behind, despite their destruction in both world wars, the resulting restoration is formidable and today we can enjoy the charm of this set.
