Leopold canal Oostkerke - Damme
The canal runs over the territory of the municipalities of Assenede, Sint-Laureins, Maldegem, Damme and Bruges over a length of 46 km. The last 20 km of this, the Leopold Canal runs parallel to the Schipdonk Canal, from which it is only separated by a dike. In popular speech, both channels are called the "Blinker" and the "Stinker" respectively. The mouth in the sea is in Zeebrugge.
Nowadays there is a weir in Sint-Laureins. As a result, for the greater part of the time, the drainage from the western part takes place via Zeebrugge to the North Sea and from the eastern part via the Braakman to the Westerschelde. The western part thus belongs to the hydrographic basin the Brugse Polders and the east to the Ghent canals
