Curling bowl,
I think played also in Canada, through people from Belgium or the Netherlands, old immigrants
Curling bowl is a game that is usually played 3 to 3 or 4 to 4. Matches are also given 2 to 2 or 1 to 1, but these are less likely.
Each player always has 1 turn to ball by end (end = all players played 1 time). The goal is to get as many bulbs as possible as close as possible to the team. He who has won 9 points first. One game takes 25 minutes on average.
The curling balls consist of wartex or wormwood and have an Ш between 180mm and 225mm. The minimum thickness is 82 mm. The weight between 2.5 and 4.5 kg.

Hello John, Is this play of balls also played in Belgium? Interesting scene. The men are playing and the women (probably the wives) are observing. Excellent composition and colours.

Hello John,

It's a very engaging photograph, where participants and spectators are all intent on the activity! I love how you have given us so many lovely details of the setting, too, so that we feel to be part of the experience.
The wooden fencing, surrounding the game area, are particularly effective, especially with the dappled light on their surfaces.

I like the pleasant atmosphere of the people who have gathered to watch the game or to take part in it. The simple wooden fence creates a number of fine diagonal lines and in the background I love the well laid brick roofs of the barns. The photo has a wonderful clarity and sharpness.

Hello John,
The game sounds similar to petanque or boules played in France with round balls. Your composition nicely captures the action. I like the pleasant lights and colours and the excellent sharpness. There is also a winter sport played on ice called curling and very popular in Scotland amongst other places.

In Canada the sport is call Curling and it is played on a ice rink. There is also another sport Lawn Bowling. You have captured well the action of the Curling bowl. The presenc of the people is animating the scene. Have a nice day.

Ik kan me niet herinneren dat ik deze vorm van curling bowls (koersbal?) in Nederland heb gezien. Wel in Engeland in de buurt van Ramsgate. Daar hadden ze een heleboel speelvelden naast elkaar. Ik zal eens kijken of ik daar nog foto’s van heb.
Mooie presentatie van deze sport die in vele vormen nog steeds is terug te vinden.

haha...yes, this is played alot here in Canada as well although I personally have never played. as for your photo its too bad you couldn't have moved slightly over to your left a little, that we we could see what they're aiming for :)

but still, its a very pleasing and friendly type of scene that is easy to enjoy and something we can all relate to on some sort of personal level. fun atmosphere, clear, bright, sharp presentation. cheers

Hallo John,
Op de kleine foto leek het wel in de Far West genomen. Waarschijnlijk bracht het houten hekken me op die idee.
De werkelijkheid is helemaal anders.
Het lijkt een mannensport terwijl de vrouwen toekijken.
Ik heb het nog nooit zien spelen.
Een aantrekkelijke compositie met goede diepte van het beeld.

Dag John I never saw in Canada such curling-like stones without handles, easily perceptible after zooming my screen at 300%. Anyway, this sportive scenery remains quite informative of an healty spirit of competition, given the many audience members around the fence. Groeten

I thought this is the known Patanque game from France, isn't it?
Anyway, seems to attract some spactators and a good number of participants. Picture point of view with the wooden fence enhanced the "borders" of the game area, framed well the enliven scene.
