Photographer's Note

Today is Good Friday.

So this is a picture dedicated to all the christians who celebrate Easter. According to the bible, Jesus Christ was crucified and killed on this day. Easter celebrates his resurrection, which for christians is the ultimate proof that JC really is/was the son of god. Hence the omnipresence of this rather grim torture scene in christian imagery and art. Although Christmas seems to have taken over, Easter really is the most important holy day on the Christian calender.

I'm not 100% about the "2012 years ago today", though, since our calender has been tampered with a few times.

I wish all christians a happy Easter.

This picture shows a roadside crucifix in Oud-Rekem, a small village near the Maas river, close to the Dutch border. It was elected as Flanders' most beautiful village in 2008 and makes a good destination for a relaxed day out.

Ce vrai, en ce Vendredi Saint nous mйditons sur le symbole de la croix. C’est le jour du retour sur soi-mкme, de l’union aux souffrances du Christ pour le salut de tous.
Trиs bonne idйe, une simple et et saisissante interprйtation du Vendredi Saint. Une photo maоtrise parfaitement les angles de visйes et de cadrage.

Als wanneer de tijden verder evalueren zoals ze nu bezig zijn zullen de kruisbeelden verdwijnen, wat ik op zich zeer spijtig vind, traditie in Vlaanderen moeten blijven, en iedereen moet daar met zijn pollen afblijven.
Ik ben zeer blij dat u de moed gevonden heeft om dit op TE te plaatsen.
