River Dijle of Leuven
De Dijle is a river that flows through the Belgian provinces of Walloon Brabant, Flemish Brabant and Antwerp. It is part of the Scheldt river basin. The area to the east of Brussels, through which the Dyle passes, is called the Dijleland.
The most important places along the Dyle are, with the stream, Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, Wavre, Leuven, Werchter and Mechelen. The river has a length of 86 kilometers.
This river originates in Houtain-le-Val, a part of the Walloon Brabant Genappe (Genappe). Initially the Dijle flows fairly easily in a north-easterly direction. To the south of Leuven, the Thyle, the Train, the Nethen, the Laan and IJse end up in the Dyle; in Leuven itself also the Food. In Werchter, the Demer ends up in the Dyle, which then makes a turn to the west. In Mechelen, the Dyle is split into a Binnendijle and a diversion line. In the end, the Dijle merged with the Nete into the Rupel shortly after the Zenne flows into its course.
I hope that you enjoy it

Hello John,
It's a very narrow river, running between the buildings so closely that the water goes right up to the walls like a canal. The different styles of brickwork seen here provide fine tones to the photo and they all contrast nicely against the many green trees and bushes. The water is also quite green. It's a well balanced and harmonious composition.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hallo John,
Een mooie foto van dit smalle riviertje tussen de oude baksteenarchitectuur door. De kleuren zijn aantrekkelijk, vooral de combinatie van het rood/oranje baksteen en de groene bomen. De compositie is mooi in balans.

john
curious view of this canal with the walls and buildings and windows facing the waters. I suppose the level of the river never was so much higher, if this were in my homeland their houses would be demolished en few months by the floods. nice aspect.
take care

Hi John,
The length of the river is creating depth. The point of view is showing the details of the buildings. The light is giving good rendering of the colours. Have a nice day.

Hi John
A great image and made all the better by the story that accompanies it. It's amazing what power of brown bricks on green foliage can have - a perfect collaboration of soothing colour that I love in this shot. Fine capture of these buildings with taste of oldy worldy, well exposed and composed with the verticals precisely so, and have produced a most eye catching image, well done.
Best regards

Hello John,
The red brick houses near the canal look like in Bruges. Lovely mixture of the red walls and greenery. excellent quality of the old photo.

Hi John,
very attractive visually spot. I like how the buildings are crowded next to the river as if trying to squeeze the river out completely.
Also the red brick contrasts with the green tones of the river.
The sky is a bit sad, it lost the pattern in some places. I suppose in the northern countries it is hard to change that, the weather is very often like that. I am usually quite discouraged by the bad weather that is why in the summer I am outdoor as much as I can while in winter I am mostly sitting at home :(
Very interesting spot, well presented,
M

Hello John,
The narrow stream like river offers a good lead-line between the beautiful brick built houses. Superb rendering of the rich red tones, which make a fine contrast with the heavily overcast sky. Lots of delightfully rendered textural detail. I love brick in all its forms.

Hello John,
The canal adds strong lead in lines and linear perspective. I like the small ferns and touches of other greenery added by the moss. Good sharpness and the red brick buildings contrast well with the patches of blue grey sky. Tfs!

Hello John,
I imagine that you took this photograph from a bridge that was crossing the canal to that you could achieve this fine composition, with the building wall and the canal wall appearing from such strong positions.
This photograph does not bring the animation that we regularly see in your photographs but it does have exquisite, sharp details of the brickwork and many details of the windows and chimneys of these lovely old buildings.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Dag John,

Vele groeten, Paul

Hello John,
The view of the brick walls so close together, yet separated by water is quite pleasant. The sky was a bit uncooperative but I think you dealt with it reasonably well.

Hi John
this is like an older more charming version of Venice :)
its great how the bricks are basically all the same orange or red color, even the rooftops are the same. Good idea to place the stream on the left 1/3 location for composition. pleasing scene all the way through. cheers
Craig
