Victory Day, a photo from Minskaya, West

Photographer's Note

As I have written earlier, I was in Minsk on 9th May, the Victory day. In the old part of the town, near the City Hall, was a kind of festival. There was scene where the the choir sang songs, there was a display of some old cars and some people were dressed like in the war time. I suppose that this girl looks like the nurse soldier. I found her nice and here she posed for me. I will upload also Workshops.

The girl looks great with her domestic soldier dress and strap bag..

she is probably a nurse because there is a cross on her strap bag

Hello Malgo,
Three nice photos of women who were obviously very pleased to pose for you. I can't see them without thinking of Belarusian Nobel prize winner Svetlana Aleksiyevich and her book "The war has no female face", about Soviet women taking part in WW2 in various positions, not just as nurses. It's a terrifying and fantastic book I can strongly recommend, just like everything by Aleksiyevich. She is fantastic, and not much liked by the Belarus regime,

A very glamorous member of the red cross! I recognise the water bottle that she carries at her waist. It is the same as one that Serghei very kindly gave to me as a present. Nice remembrance photo.

Hello Malgo,

Russian soldiers are never been in Belgium, but sure in Poland, I know not the clothes of the soldiers of Russia during WW II, all pictures were black and white 70 years ago.
But the Lady soldier is young and nice in this costume, with red cross on the bag.
Also your picture with the four girls is wonderful, according to the shoes are this maybe a part of a dancegroup.
An excellent composition and lovely sharp presentation.

Zdravo Malgo. Now this is the sort of face that I love- a Slavic roundish face with high cheekbones, the sort of face I miss terribly in an Anglo world. She really is a stunner and who said men look great in a uniform without mentioning how women look just as good? Zivili Slaveni. This portrait looks like a trip back in time.
Very nice composition, and a beautiful smile that one can immagine being on the faces of everyone when they heard that the war was over after long years of death and hardship, finally possible to rebuild and continue living.

I really like this portrait for that simple reason. I do hope you had a great time visiting this pocket in time trying to immortalize a day that we all should remember.

typowo slowianska uroda. Ladna dzioucha ale w wojskowym mundurze i z ruska gwiazda na furazerce. Zal by bylo do takiej strzelac, wolalbym ja miec w innym miejscu niz w armii, hehe. Tak wiec dzien zwyciestwa w Rosji i na Bialorusi ten sam. Te 4 w WS niczego sobie, horoszije.

Piekna sanitariuszka, moze nie Pola Raksa ale mniej wiecej tak pamietam sanitariuszki z Czterech Pancernych :)
Nie tak dawno ogladalismy Hurricanes i Spitfires na zdjeciu Johna a tu rowniez widok niczym z drugiej wojny swiatowej.
Swietnie ze bylas tam przy takiej okazji.

Hi Malgo,
A good choice to visit Belarus at the Victory day. I guess there was much to see and photograph during these day. This is an excellent portrait of this young woman, sharp and clear but also a small glimpse of the background activity, well done!
