Photographer's Note
I just come home from getting me a prescription for malaria pills and a yellow fever injection and I just have to post a tropical scene waiting for my first bicycle trip in Africa (Togo and Benin)in January.
This is not Africa but Jamaica comes very close, especially here in Alligator Pond far from the touristic resorts on the north coast.

Hi Gerrit,i'm just back from Dominican Republic and is nice to see a pic taken very close to there. There is the same atmosphere, the same beautiful sea.....i like a lot your composition, the position of light was decisive for the beauty of this great perspective! My best compliments, have a nice day,Luciano

Hello Gerrit,
This is indeed a scene evocative of the West Coast of Africa. You have managed the light well, under somewhat difficult conditions. The water must be so inviting.
Warm regards and good luck in your bicycle sojourn to Africa.

Hi Gerrit,
the main feature of this wonderful impression is the tropical light! It is incredibly beautiful as it is shining on this fascinating place! And you have chosen an excellent POV to create a very attractive and joyful atmosphere of the beach. I am longing for sunshine too..... TFS!
Warm regards

Hello Gerrit,
Even before my eye actually got to the bottom of the page of thumbnails, I was aware of an image from Alligator Pond! There is a quality in the light, the colors, the forms, the body language ... that is unmistakable. And yet, as Batalay says, it could be in West Africa. I am constantly struck by the way that what some people call "the silent -- or unconscious -- baggage" has combined with the tropical environment to produce a "mini-Africa." Anyway, I like the shot and I wish you well on your new trip.

Mary

Hi Gerrit
Yes I would not mind being in the tropics at all. It snowed here yesterday & I have a bad cold I cant seem to shake. Good colour & sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Gerrit-
I've been to Jamaica three times, yet didn't visit this area. Beautiful capture of daily life - a simple but happy one.
It is 17 degrees in Seattle today - I would rather be in Jamaica.

Hey, this is really the essence of Jamaica: tropical vegetation, colourful boats and wooden huts on the beach and people strolling around and enjoying life...
"well I remember, when we used to sit... no woman no cry..."
this soundtrack comes spontaneously in my mind! (:-)
Well you seem addicted to tropical countries, eh? I hope you didn't cath the malaria, and the prescription is for prevention and not for curing it!
Your photo has lot of life. And that I think is the best thing one can find in a photo! Not only because has a good contrast and intense colours but because it really depicts a daily life scene. Well done and well presented, a very good reportage.
Best regards,
Donato

Hello Gerrit,
Superb daily life capture, I love the way they all seem to be enjoying themselves just doing what they do.
I've never been to this part of the world, your image looks very inviting.
Just a tip, I would highly recommend you get an injection against Hepatitis as well.
Best wishes
Peter

Bonjour Gerrit,
une photo 100% tropicale, remplie de la joie de vivre malgré les conditions précaires d'existance. Sans doute un meilleur esprit communautaire que le nôtre.
J'aime beaucoup l'impressionnant arrière-plan.
Mes amitiés.
Daniel.

Hello Gerrit,
This slice of daily life on the beach is well captured, the point of view works well!
Fine light renders attractive colours as the sea is washing the shores of Jamaica...
Good depth, with a view to the rain forest in the back..!
Greetings,
Pablo -
