Photographer's Note

Travels on the Silk Road:
The nice monument of a traditional Caravan has been enriched by my bicycle to the right (luggage removed). We made it from Switzerland to Samarqand (OK, in steps spread over several years). In the background you have the Registan, a complex of Madrassahs around a central plaza, "the noblest public square in the world". The complex had the function of an Elite University campus--in 15th century Samarqand, that is. The University was given the mandate that Mathematics, Astronomy (not Astrology!) and the lecture of the Khoran were compulsory for all of the 100 students. Ulug Beg, the grand-son of the empire founder Amir Temur (Tamerlane) paid the price for his scientific and educational bend: he was murdered.

The slide is of bad quality, the 200 ASA was too much. After scanning I removed the grains in the blue part in PS by isolating it with the "magnetic lasso". I expect some reaction from you. Enjoy anyway.
