Hot Work, a photo from Krabi, South

Photographer's Note

In Krabi, in Southern Thailand, the day after an important festival the novices were cleaning up the mess. The day was very hot and there was no shade. This young novice has pulled his robe over his shaved head. He is collecting heave metal flagpoles and his face shows signs of fatigue and heat. A time spent as a novice is part of the training for all young men in a Buddhist society and doing work about the temple is part of their duties. However, they do go to school and there is time for fun.

Excellent shot Kevin.
I like the way you have filled up the frame with orange with the blue in the corner. Nice detail on the face too. The fatigue shows.

Hi Kevin, I like this shot a lot. The boy covered in orange and his face indicating his fatigue. Maybe I might have opted for a thigher crop. Ё

This is a very different composition to the many photographs that we see of novice monks on TE, Kevin, and you should be congratulated for seeing the potential of this POV. Framing and exposure is spot on, and I lke the way the whole frame is dominated by the oranage colour. However, the sky in the top left hand corner looks artificial to me. Did you clone out the background or was that as it was? Cheers . . . David

Hi Kevin,
I know this is one of your much older photos but I just can't take my eyes off it. Beautiful orange tone but its got to do more with the way he looks at you. Simply splendid work.
