Photographer's Note
Mengjia Longshan Temple, Taipei, Taiwan
Gift Giving - Chinese New Year
Viewed are volunteers who give what they have prepared or bought – cheerful elderly women and men, mostly retirees, wanting to be of service to others and to socialize at the same time for special occasions – like Chinese New Year seen here. Both local Monks and the needy receive these gifts and the temple leaders make the choices for distributions. Please see the WS photos for more detailed views of Gift Giving and/or Taking.
Offering food is a meritorious act that also reminds us not to be greedy or selfish. In addition, Laypeople have a responsibility to support the temple monks physically, and the monks have an obligation to support the community spiritually.
As stated in my last photo posting: When in Taipei, Taiwan I urge going to the local temples. The one viewed here is one of the oldest, from 1738 - I love going to Asian temples however this one seriously makes me feel like I’m back in time. Very active – great to see during Chinese New Year.

Hello David,
I like to learn new things and these photographs have certainly explained something of which I was unaware.
I love the idea of people supporting one another and of giving their time, as well as their goods.
Your photographs are full of activity, of bright colours and eclectic foods.
There is so much to see and your photographs are clear as well as interesting.
I was interested to note how many people were giving thanks and how some were wearing face masks.
I have a Malaysian friend who explained to me that Malaysian peoples don't like to see grey hair. It would seem that the same applies here!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Bonjour David,
Pour quelqu'un comme moi qui n'aime pas tellement les foules, je ne me sentirais pas bien à cet endroit mais cela semble intéressant comme célébration. Belle scène de vie dans cette partie du monde.
Amicalement

Hello David,
What you write is a very humane, I love the idea of people supporting one another and of giving their time, as well as their goods, but in western countries is over.
The architecture is extraordinarily but also nice to look at.
Lovely sharp and clear photographed.
Nice composition too.
Very well done, TFS.
Best regards,
John.
