ÔÎÒÎÃÐÀÔÈÈ

I just want to share this photo from my one day in Sri Lanka. I never came further than to Negombo, a mainly Christian city in an otherwise Buddhist country. It's known mostly for its proximity to the international airport, and the resorts that occupy most of the coast near the city. I never made it out of there, and spent my 20 hours in the center of the city.

I first met a family who invited me in to see their family albums, and they also showed me their typical Sri Lankan home. Afterwards I met some guys on the street playing couronne and I sat down to play with them. For some reason I lost all games I played. I blame their luck... After being lectured over and over again about the techniques and my hopes of winning slowly died, one of the guys took me to one of the main attractions of Negombo, a big temple. After that, I felt satisfied with what was intentionally supposed to be a short morning walk at 8 am. I returned at 3.

I decided to find something to eat before falling to sleep and I ended up scanning the whole city for a restaurant. I ended up in an Italian style café with the owner's family running around playing all the time. As I finished the way too spicy food, the kids tried to teach me singalese for an hour. Unfortunately for them, I still don't speak the language. Mata singhala baha. Anyway, I will return some day. Sthootiy!

For this photo I used a HDR effect from an app on my phone (snapseed). Allegedly not the best quality, but I think it shows something that is important in many Negomboan lives. The train plays a big role in the Sri Lankan society and for Negombo it is the main mode of transportation apart from the inevitable motorcycles and tuk-tuks.
