Kandy Monk, a photo from Central, South

The city of Kandy was the last capital of the ancient kings' era of Sri Lanka. The city lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is one of the most scenic cities in Sri Lanka; it is important both in administrative and religious terms and is the capital of the Central Province. This shot is taken from atop a hill where a giant Buddha statue has been created and this monk is looking across the city, appearing like a Guardian Angel!

Hi Hemant,

Nicely framed shot with overview of city and Kandy Lake if my memory is good. I know that monks are dedicated to a life of meditation & poverty but when I was in Kandy last year I was amused by the monks going in to the local ATM machine for cash. Never knew the monks had money stashed in the bank.

Hello Hemant,
It's a beautiful view of the city of Kandy with the lake and the forested hills behind it. Nicely framed with the columns (or the walls). But it's of course this monk in his orange clothes who makes the picture especially attractive. The orange makes him stand out wonderfully on this photo that is composed generally of blue, green and grey tones.

Hi Hemant,

Your post processing shows a dominant of green, but the image is so elegant with a striking point of view.

I like the way you have framed the monk with the two columns and the fact that he is standing away from the centre. It's interesting to see the other monk down the stairs, praying and adopting a different position.

A good capture.
