Here we can see two towers inside the Kremlin.
The tower at right is named Ivan, the Great, it is the higher tower inside Kremlin.
There was a tower and church here before, but in 1505 the grand duke Ivan III decided to build a new church and called an Italian architect. Soon he died and his son decided to build a high tower too, that was finished in 1508.
In 1600 Boris Gudunov ordered the tower should be higher becoming the highest building in the city until 1883.
It is told a legend about Napoleon: someone had told him there was a cross in the top of a church and it was made in solid gold and soldiers tried to take it, but it was the wrong cross. Anyway it was difficult to take down the cross and a Russian peasant decided to do the job and gave them the cross, that was only gilded, and when he was trying to receive his reward the French gave him a shot in his hand because he was a traitor of his people. During his retreat Napoleon decided to explode the tower but it wasn't damaged.
At left side you can see another bell tower, named Assumption Belfry, concluded in 1543, this tower have 24 bells and the biggest bell of the Kremlin.
