These are frescos from Konevets Island Monastery.
-------------------------------
One of the famous cloisters of Russian North - Konevsky monastery was founded on September 8, 1380 on Konevets Island (Ladoga Lake). Monastery has great and full of dramatic history.
Twice, in 1577 and 1610 years Swedish captured island and destroyed monastery because defensive installation was absent. On 1718 year Peter I won Ladoga Lake back and made decree to monastery resumption.
Since 1917 till 1940 years monastery was belonging to Finland. Since August 19, 1944 Konevets Island belongs to Soviet Union and all monks immigrated to Finland. Meanwhile, on Konevets Island desolation take place – Soviet military base was founded in monastery buildings. You really could not find island on Soviet geographic maps – it was classify as secret. In 1990 monastery was given back to Saint-Petersburg diocese. In June 12, 1993 600th anniversary was celebrated solemnly.
Today monastery is reconstructing in very difficult conditions.

Nice! Do you know when they were painted and who they represent? The monastery's founders? I have put the island on my list of places to visit during my next trip to Russia!
Best wishes,
Jeremy
