The story continues, a photo from Rakhine, South

Photographer's Note

I began the story yesterday, with the portrait from 2019. This February we travelled back to this remote part of Rakhine State, to the fishing village and found the young girl (and her family). The kids remembered us from last year, which is hardly surprising as I think we were the last westerners here, and were excited to see us again, not much happens in this part of the world. The excitement reached a fury when we started to unpack the prints that we had taken of them the previous year. Neighbours in the village were summoned, tea was made, coconuts broken, cloves of garlics and dried fish (a local snack) were offered to us on chipped saucers. Their gratitude immense, and the pleasure was all ours.

Hello Elaine,
This is a cute photo and a very nice story. I always like photos that show people and details that stimulate me to make up a story of my own, but this is better because it tells a real story. The girl looks so happy and proud standing there with the photo from last year. A bonus to us is the view of the boats in the bay behind her. I have often sent printed photos to people I have met, but I've never had the pleasure of returning like this.

Episodes like this, bring joy to a photographer!
The whole family sounds to have been excited and involved in reviewing the photographs!
What a pretty model, what a great outcome and what a fine dof you have used.

Thanks for the story! That's picture in picture it is a kind of double portrait. I like her facial expression she looks SO proud of her picture just lovely and well put together too!. A wonderful original present and a win win situation I am sure she will remember this for the rest of her life. This is what travel photography is all about! Wonderful shot

Hello Elaine,
It must be fantastic to see people again that you met and photographed earlier. Even better when they also remember you.
Very nice with the thanaka on the tip of her nose.
On the picture she's holding in her hands, the little girl looks just a little bit older, I think. Maybe it's because of her pose.
Do they have internet access and can she see her photos there?

Dit prachtige portret gaat samen met een heel bijzonder verhaal, heel mooi om het meisje zo met de foto van een jaar eerder te fotograferen. Het kalme water met de verschillende boten zorgt voor een mooi achtergrond.

Elaine, a touching story explained in the photo note. The little girl looks happy to receive her portrait printed as a gift. There are no cameras in her village so she will keep this souvenir all her life. Fine colors, good sharpness, regards.
