ÔÎÒÎÃÐÀÔÈÈ

In my previous post I mentioned about the quiet town of Kuala Kubu Baru. It lies on the foothill before the winding drive up the mountain to Fraser's Hill. This town dates back to the time when the British were in Malaya then. The shophouses were mostly built in the 1920s, it has a cinema hall but have since closed down. I had the opportunity to meet a conservationist, who brought his family up to Kuala Kubu Baru, away from the hustle and bustle of city life in Kuala Lumpur. We chatted and drank local coffee, one of the best I have tasted for a long time. He showed me the shoplot he rented. In the old days the shoplot consist of a ground floor, where business are conducted and an upper floor where the family stayed. It has a very high roof, no ceiling but surprisingly cool. The truss beam are from the best local wood, very hard and durable and it is carved. I find it very cool, folks those days build houses with their heart. The floors are of solid wood and the doors downstairs are of planks arranged upright, slotted into channel on both the top and bottom beam and the locking device is usually a piece of square wood slotted horizontally across the planks. I had a peek from the kitchen window of this lovely quaint shophouse and saw this window. Practically no touch up was done on this shot and the colour of the window are as it were. This little town has only one traffic light and to my mind definitely worth preserving.
