Sulla strada che conduce all'imponente tempio Todai-ji mi sono imbattuta in questo monaco buddista.
Il Todaiji e` forse il piu` importante tempio buddhista di tutto l`arcipelago giapponese. Costruito interamente in legno nel 752, il potere politico di questa enorme enclave sacra divenne talmente esuberante che l`imperatore dovette decidere lo spostamento della capitale nel 784, in modo da spostare la corte in una zona non ancora controllata dai monaci del Todaiji. L`ingresso principale di questo maestoso tempio si affaccia su un piccolo viale ai margini del parco di Nara, dove numerosi negozi e bancarelle vendono articoli artigianali e prodotti tradizionali di Nara. All`entrata di questo viale si e` subito avvicinati da numerosi cervi, l`animale sacro simbolo di Nara, che colorano il parco della citta` in tutte le stagioni dell`anno. La compagnia di questi mansueti animali continua sin alla soglia del tempio, dove il visitatore e il fedele passano sotto un portale di enormi dimensioni (Chumon. Il tempio e` costruito nel tradizionale stile cinese armonizzato con le forme e i materiali giapponesi.

On the road leading to the imposing temple Todai-ji, I came across this Buddhist monk. The Todaiji is perhaps the most important Buddhist temple of the entire Japanese archipelago. Built entirely of wood in 752, the political power of this huge sacred enclave became so exuberant that the emperor had decided to move the capital in 784, so as to move the court in an area not controlled by the monks of Todaiji. `The main entrance of this majestic temple overlooking a small street on the edge of Nara Park, where numerous shops and stalls selling handicrafts and traditional products of Nara. At the entrance of this avenue is now approached by a number of deer, the animal `sacred symbol of Nara, which color the park of the city in all seasons of the year. The company of these gentle animals continued since the threshold of the temple, where the visitor and the faithful passed under a gateway to enormous size (chumon). The temple is built in traditional Chinese style harmonized with the forms and materials in Japan.
