Photographer's Note

Nakanosakaue is near Shinjuku, the adminstrative centre of Tokyo. This picture was taken outside of one of the subway exits. This subway station was one of those affected by the 1997 sarin gas terror attacks.

The area is convenient and clean though rents are reasonable by Tokyo standards; it's a good place to live. You can walk to the bright lights of Shinjuku.

Hi Jeremy,

What fascinates me about this picture is the contrast between the majority gray areas, and occasional bursts of colour. It almost looks as though some parts have been purposely converted to black and white, and yet on closer inspection, they weren't. Quite an unusual phenomenon you've caught here.
